HP Movie Review

(Cross posted from FB with a bit of an addition)

OK- is it possible for anyone to get spoiled on this topic? Well, sort of I suppose- One of the 6 people I went with last night has never read any of the books thus far, but he knew the big plot point.

And how long is this book? I forget exactly how many pages, but something like 600 or something. I want to go back, re-read (it's been a few years ) and make notes on all the points that the director used. Then make a list of all the things he changed/added, and then the very long list of things he didn't include. You know. Like the actual ending.
I did like that it was funnier than most of the previous movies. The effects this time were really over the top great- the ink in water effect was just mind-blowing. Loved the effect of the Felix Felitis (or however you spell it, I'm not going to look right now- not before breakfast and coffee) on Harry. It was great :)
The guy playing Slughorn did a pretty good job. Young Tom Riddle- wow with the creepy. I actually almost wish he was more charming, echoing more from Chamber of Secrets Tom. But they typecast well to match that Tom, and wow --- creeepy! Draco's torment was pretty great. Although I'm not going to believe he's 16. Soooorry! He's got the Luke Perry syndrome, but I'd estimate more like the kid looks 20, not 30.
And that's pretty much where my happy ends. What's with the wooden dialog? And the inconsistent character portrayal? And burning down people's houses- uh, what? Was that necessary? It's been a while, but weren't there aurors supposed to play prominently? I really wanted to see more with Ginny- she's one of my favorite characters and the down-play her way too much, especially at this stage. She should have been included at the end of the book... did I say book? Movie. And speaking of the end of the movie- What. The. F....? There was this petrification thing that should have been going on. And oh, how about a huge frickin' fight between the baddies and the students? Which would have meant that we hadn't abandoned the bit about Dumbledore's Army- which did exist just one movie/book ago, and yet... Now we just burn Hagrid's house down for no good reason. Oh wait. They needed more explosions/fire, I guess :P
Oh- and my favorite: "btw., Harry m'boy- I'm the half blood prince." And that's it. Uh..... really? Thanks for that bit of 10 second exposition.

So that's what I think. There might be more, but I may have mentioned the lack of breakfast and coffee.
Well, except one other thing- I was thinking of darkrose most of the time thinking what on-going fantastic slashfic you could pull from the Draco/Snape interactions. And a few others. Just a few. ;)

Yeah, i have to agree with your take on the whole thing. WTF with the ending or lack of it? And they completely cut out the beginning with the muggle Prime Minister and then the Dursleys. What, they didn't want to pay the actors? There was actually exposition and a plot point in there. And What about Bill and Fleur? There was so much delicious snark and character development, just glossed over. Oh, right, less actors to pay if we cut that part out.

One thing I did like, btw, was how they portrayed the very young and then the young Tom Riddle. Those two actors looked so much alike. And did you know that apparently the young one is Ralph Fiennes (sp.?) nephew? So they are related and might have some resembalance, even if by the time the character becomes a man you see nothing of his actual face. And absolutely agreed, Draco's torment was spot on. That kid can act. And Rupert Graves did a fabulous job. I have new respect for him.

There was so much more. But I'm going to go and listen to my audio version of the book to make myself feel better instead of ranting.
