Mmmm, mint

mizarchivist: (Drink)
I was half way through my first mojito when I got a text that lovely ladies were getting together for drinks on the other side of town. Toooo late! [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty  and I were already snarking and drinking. Dance With Me (1998)--- augh. What plot?! I watched it because [livejournal.com profile] doeeyedbunny  said that SYTYCD choreographers were extras/support cast. The writers decided there need not be a conclusion when meaningful staring would do. We had to cleanse the palate with real dancing (season 5 finale) to make up for it.

I love weather like today. I can feel September headed closer, and I remember how much I frakking adore that month. I really do.

Another thing: got to take A. with me on my first with passenger motorcycle ride. It was only down to the end of the block by way of side street, but still. I did it! Nobody was maimed or threatened particularly with maiming. Also we didn't go above 30. But now I know what that feels like and I think I can handle it... as long as I don't get over-confident. Yay! And fun.

So for the lovely ladies drinking: I promise I held up my end over here. Tasty mojitos and alcoholic ice cream.

[livejournal.com profile] spinrabbit  being the most excellent creature that she is, just pointed to this Cafe Press store front. Sign me up. I've now populated every blog space I am responsible for/use with this, that's how much I love it.

We do remember the Post It note scandal of aught-eight? OK, I thought so.
mizarchivist: (Hair-braided)
Look! [livejournal.com profile] badlittlemonkey  made me a new icon. Further provenance: [livejournal.com profile] primal_pastry  braided my hair at [livejournal.com profile] mzkero 's a few weeks ago and blm was kind enough to document for me.

Ok, and now the general and painfully obvious statement: I'm a word snob. I consider this to be a positive quality, but it does make for some rankling these days. I will abuse the language a bit with various lol-cat or text abbreviations, but it's almost always for humor's sake/with irony. The thing is, I think just about everyone who bothers to read this doesn't do this, but--- for the love of all the gods! If you want to make a good first impression, please use proper grammar and spelling. Even if it's just a new potential friend. Nothing turns me off faster than a casual "ur."
OK? OK. They tell me deep breaths help right about now.

I decided months ago I'd attend the New England Fan Experience (NEFX) with Robin when she asked so we could see Leonard Nimoy- although to actually see his panel, you have to pay even more- and Gareth David-Lloyd. Some other folks, too, but Ianto is the point, here.

I've been to 2 cons in my time. Arisia- every year for almost a decade- and DragonCon the one time last year. I figured it'd be more like Arisia, but with a few movie/film guests. Wellllll- it's a lot smaller than Arisia. Only 6 panels at a time, plus 1 video gaming room, a table gaming room, the art show, and live + anime video room. Those 6 panels include all the main stage/celeb sections, sooo... yeah. Turns out that's not enough to keep me interested for a fair bit of the weekend, at least not from the schedule I've seen.

It took 45 minutes to get through registration. [livejournal.com profile] shayde would have been having a coronary witnessing these n00bs. Really. Only 2 people, and apparently the least experienced. It's been a few years, but I could have done it single-handedly better than these two did. This was not an auspicious way to start my Fan Experience. But... knowing I was hungry and that I'd not have to deal with that aspect for the rest of the weekend, I just spent my derision in an academic sense rather than in a blood pressure-raising sense.

So, once I found Robin, we decided to attend the comic book movie panel- a moderator, a speaker, and the audience- less than 10 people. And the moderator didn't moderate. I left with a much more organized bag, a notion of what I wanted to do for the rest of the weekend, and a clear understanding of what the fellow attendees like in their comic book movies since they spent the majority of the time talking.
We didn't actually go to the Dr. Who panel that was supposed to be next, because they ended up going an hour early and never changed the program... or waited an hour. Our backup plan- check out the dealer's room where I got this very fine hat and goggles-
v. fine hat. And goggles.
Given that I have been up since 5:30, I decided that seeing Repo wasn't going to happen. So we opted for pizza to fill the intervening 2 hours before Robin had her final panel to see. ... And here I am. I actually don't go back until after lunch tomorrow and then it's a straight shot all the way to 9. But they're feeding me, since I paid the bigger bucks for some perks- like a banquet with the celebs. Although honestly, I feel awkward about making them do that bit. Whatever. It's my first experience with that sort of con event.

-More tomorrow!

blahdeblah )

So that's what I think. There might be more, but I may have mentioned the lack of breakfast and coffee.
Well, except one other thing- I was thinking of darkrose most of the time thinking what on-going fantastic slashfic you could pull from the Draco/Snape interactions. And a few others. Just a few. ;)

brief +/-

mizarchivist: (Eddie-Cake or Death?)
- I'm still at work. I do not know how much longer it'll be.
+ I don't have to wait for my part of the board meeting in the main room. I can wait in my office and goof on teh interwebs.
? Perhaps if I attempt actual work, they'll call me faster and then I can go home.

Thank you for flying Church of England. Cake or death?
...
"Well, we're out of cake! We only had three bits and we didn't expect such a rush! So what do you want?"
"What, so my choice is 'or death?' Well, then I'll have the chicken, please."

On the days where you're trapped at work with very boring tasks, LJ and email will be extra quiet.

On a happier note, today is [livejournal.com profile] quiet_elegance's 31st natal day and the second year in which he acknowledges that chronological shift six months late - June 12th.

Machines hate me today.
My computer really hates me today. It's acting like a sulky teenager who has not done hir chores after the 10th request that it gets done.

I've tried ordering new contacts for Q_E and myself, and gave up after a bit because it was so slow and stupid. Then Fleet lived up to its unhelpful rep and first gave me a fucked up font (too big), then when I logged out and back in, entirely refused to let me in or acknowledge Homelink is a real thing. So, thankfully, the phone query works. Questions answered through the automated system.

I'll try for contacts tomorrow.

The plus side: I can replace my glasses lenses for no cost as they're under warranty. I am bouncy-happy about that. They're mangly-scratched (my own fault for neglecting to care for them)

Ugh.

Oh, different topic: If anyone was wondring if the movie, S.W.A.T. is worth watching, I'd say... maybe. Only if you want a 2 dimensional bunch of characters (mostly pretty) and predictable plot. Oh, and badly written script.
