I never liked Mr. Rodgers as a child. I appreciate his work as a children's host, but dude. Bleh. Give me the Electric Company and Sesame Street any day of the week. srsly. This post required a new tag. Snark.

My thoughts exactly. I was a total fan of both of those and hated Mr. Rogers. Milk-sop soggy guy. Too annoying. I appreciate what he's done for some kids, but really there must be better ways to raise self-esteem.
(Also, not a MrR fan, except for in mid-show there was some kind of story time. I'd sort of not watch until that, watch that, then turn it off. I wish I could remember now what it was. MrR himself creeped me out.)
As a kid I always felt Mr. Rogers was condescending (though I didn't know that word yet). I hated when anyone talked to me like I was a baby, which he did. I watched him sometimes, but only when I had nothing to do while waiting for The Electric Company to come on. It was cooler.
Oh, I'm so glad to read other people saying this...I couldn't stand him as a kid, either. I couldn't figure if it was just the way he talked--far too slowly, and like he was simple, or thought I was--or that the whole show was just dumb.
Mr Rogers is awesome because they took you down the LONG DARK TUNNEL to the land of MAKE BELIEVE, where you met King Friday, the most PHALLIC PUPPET EVAR.
:-D
Oh, and Electric Company FTW because they had Morgan Freeman!!
