I did it. I sent in my registration for art show for the first time evar.
My next bit is to display them nicely. I want to get shadow boxes for the individual winged clay items. Naturally the size I want is not remotely standard. First off, square is better than rectangular, and in the 4-5" range. If anyone has seen such things *do* let me know. I'm wondering if I can manipulate acrylic box frames. I want them to look nice on the wall, but I really don't want to spend a few hundred bucks on framing then not sell a bloody thing. Yes, catch 22 if they look too cheap and then they don't sell. Middle ground is best. I'm planning on using black velvet for a backing and wire or sew the creature on, rather than glue/adhere. If anyone sees anything worthy, let me know.

Target USE to have frames like that. About 2 years ago. I don't know the company who made them... though i can check 'cause i might have 1 or 2 in a box somewhere. However, any time i've tried to find them again, I have FAILED. but I promise I will look.

Yay you for registering! (I just sent mine in, too)

As for shadow boxes, Michael's or AC Moore sometimes has very cheap ones...but you want acrylic ones? The ones I saw were cheap wood and glass front.

I'm still trying to figure out a cheap source for acrylic display stands for small polymer clay items...

Thought for both of you: if you want people to contact you later about something they can't buy now or commissions, consider having a display of business cards, preferably with an image of your work on it, or a short description of what you work in. Vistaprint has some basics for cheap, but there's DIY stuff from Staples, too.

I'm sure in my search for acrylic display cases I can find business card holders, I'll let you know if there's some good cheap ones.

I saw some at ACmoore/Michaels back in the woods.

(yanno, with a wee bit of glue, and some wood (q.e is handy, no?) you can get it all custom

GO YOU! BRAVA!

Okay, now we *have* to plan a trip to the Container Store:

Perhaps something like this, (http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?CATID=233&PRODID=60168) with a velvet backing glued into the box and the creature attached?

Or, if you've got a constellation of critters that you want to sell as a unit, something like this? (http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?CATID=233&PRODID=73649)

There might be more stuff at the store itself, not immediately apparent from online. Just a thought.

you can also make the frame much much larger than the piece... so that it nestles in the center nicely... I do that with my sqare pieces... I put them in massive frames to give the art "room to breathe" so to speak.

velcro, and magnets will do that mounting thing. without messing with the integrity of the box. Also drill a hole in the middle. hang it on the nail and cover the hole with the velvet backing.

You could also take the lady cottington approach and use these:

or these (set of 10= cheap!):
