The day started with breakfast at XV Beacon with zzbottom. I acutally got on the first bus out of Lexington this morning and it was still pitch black out. But given that rush hour wasn't even a murmur (wouldn't be today anyway, I bet) I got in at double time, really.
Work this week has been a total joke given it's only 2 1/2 days before another long weekend, and hardly anyone's about, no researchers and hardly any email or phone calls. My former intern from the spring finally got around to visiting after lunch, though. She'd hoped for my opinion on which direction to head with school now that she's halfway through. Talking to E. is always invigorating as we share a lot of opinions in common. It's always a serpentine discussion, but tends to bring up useful points not just for her but for me. And that whole someone asking me for my opinion and valuing what I have to say is nothing to sneeze at.
E stayed til almost 4, then talked to my cohort about a cataloging conundrum. The result is that I can get on with my image scanning/cataloging with one less step (duplicate entry in old Db)- it's just stupid, really. It seemed sort of logical to have a backup copy, but all the new cataloging we've been doing in the regular stacks hasn't gotten new paper cards- just a place holder for the shelf list numbering. Since my pictures don't have a shelf list number... no need! This inconsistant and Sisyphusian cataloging has been a serious clusterfuck and makes me want to go all pyromaniac. I expect I'll get little done tomorrow, but at least I know the way is less rocky now when I do get in the groove.
The house is about ready for our weekend guests (emerlion and dieseldevin)- the new DVD shelves K. procured last night turn out to be really suited for CDs- so the space is not entirely well used on each shelf, but with some finesse I got my brain to accept the situation. Oh, and I hate dusting. It makes my hands feel dreadful. But, *must* be done. I really only do it when there are guests immanent, so it's always more obvious when I get to it. Gwoss.
