Last year when
quiet_elegance was making his living plowing, they had- I think- 3 or 4 storms worthy for plowing. Worst winter evar. After each of the 3 major storms we've had so far this season, I ask him how glad is he he's not abusing himself with low-impact car crashes (which is what it's like to plow apparently) for 10-12 hours straight for a pittance and no guarantee of another real storm for the rest of the season. Mother nature is such a bitch to work for.
He's been in class since last week learning the stuff that need learning at this stage of apprenticeship. Once he's done with the classes this week, he gets his raise. At this point he's been working for the union for about 7 months and made about 3 times more in that time than all of last year. This is the first winter season in about 3-4 years that I haven't dreaded the inevitable work slow down. If work slows down this time, it might be a benefit, as this 10-12 hour day means there's not a lot of energy left for sociability and house tasks.
It's been 11 days since he was hit by that car, and he's still pretty sore. It took the better part of a week for the bruises to even surface, and when they did, it was on both sides of his leg. His ankle and foot are swollen and there are bruises on his toes. This was only at 10 mph. Heaven forfend if that [insert word of great profanity here] had been going faster. Given that he's still in a lot of pain, he's going to find his doctor soon. Good, I say. Use that insurance that you're paying for, dude.
