Apples! And parents
The apple picking failed, as it turns out the end of pick-yourself is Columbus Day weekend. However, I bought a HUGE bag for 1/2 the price I'd have had to have paid if they let me take them off the tree myself. Odd.
So, Mom and I have spent a great deal of time in the past two days peeling and processing apples. We have 3 smallish jars of butter, eaten a pie and made sauce. I peeled and cut more while watching All of Me, so there can be more pie soon.
Linens and Things is going out of business so we went there this afternoon to be vultures. It was pretty picked over- just about nothing left in the kitchen side and twin-long and king linens ruled the roost. I did get a sheet/comforter set that's geared towards dorm dwellers. The sheets aren't really stellar, but... oh well. I can't return them now. I definitely like the fuzzy blanket I found, which not only included an elusive queen but a throw and a wee pillow. All this meant I felt a need to organize the sheets/blankets upon my return. There's a very large stack now that I hope will go away. The keepers have been beautifully stowed in the containers that the comforter and sheets came in. (And the one from the comforter previously purchased)
Since it did warm up, we ended up heading up town to have a coffee- mom bought some shoes, there was people watching, and a short-ish walk up (literally) one of the streets where the gorgeous houses live. The ones that sometimes have 300 year old beeches in the front yard. Gah. And that house was for sale *SOB*- it was so pretty, we thought a bike ride would be good- and it was! 9.48 miles. That's all the way to Bedford and back. I'm glad I went out with my camera last weekend. I can see now it was the peak. The rain this week pulled down a lot of leaves and everything is starting to look less vibrant.
Mom and I put together a roast chicken dinner - I finally showed her some So You Think You Can Dance. I've been going on and on about this show for quite a while. I fear I packed a lot in, but I have 3 seasons worth of awesome. Hard not to be fannish about it all.
They head home already tomorrow, which feels much too soon. Hrmph.
Now it's almost midnight and I'm Not Even A Little Tired. :/ I think that late afternoon coffee is involved in this somehow.
