Ok, first... where the hell is everyone this weekend? I swear, I hardly had to scroll down when I went to read the day's journals? Typical: want to read, and nothing there to read :)

Today was the party in the back yard thing. There were some of my friends, but an equal number of the "cool adults" mom n' dad are friends with, too.
SamauraiZ: I hope it wasn't too much of a hardship for you hanging out all that time while I was the veritable headless chicken/schizo girl (new person shows up and I have to go talk to them, of course... would Jai/Fab Five be proud of my working of the crowd? Probably not. I'm too abrupt ;)

My uncle Will showed up with his girlfriend and her teenaged daughter. Will's 10 years older, so we have a level of relating (no pun intended!) that might not exsist with a larger generation gap. Some other teenagers made an appearance: the Nelson kids. I babysat them when they were in diapers, now they're almost out of high school. Very disconcerting. I'd not seen them since probably pre-school if that. Tall, lanky blonde kids. They put up with all the adults with grace and patience.

My mom in law showed up, stayed til after dinner and then had to go home to take care of her mom (Mimi). She was very well behaved. Dad was a saint and talked to her lots, which was probably just dandy for Mama, as she does love to flirt. I hope she didn't get cranky that I ended up not talking to her as much as I might have, but I found myself simply sitting around with everyone else listening a lot more than chattering. What? Extroverts at my party? Nahhh.

Amy came over with her boyfriend, Alan. He and Will were in the same grade, so there was a bit of catching up there. Still weirds me out to see folks w/out any safety gear riding around on bikes. Yikes. Anyway, they left sooner than later, but Amy came back towards the end, so we had some alone time. I needed that. There's nobody else out there that I've known longer than Aim. I really ought to have taken her with me last night ;) Gawd! Wouldnt' that have been a trip? Would they have assumed she was my girlfriend at first? heeheehee. Ah well. Too late. I really did consider taking her then at the right second didn't as Jenn, Nicole and I had our pre-"party" plans.

Color me not surprised: I'm very very tired. I'm really looking forward to reading more of my Regency-private eye Austen/Hammett styled book. I do sorta wish there were a few illustrations, as I keep picturing a slightly earlier clothing fashion (a la Revolutionary War) rather than the turn of the 19th century. Ah well. Nothing compares to an independent woman who gives and takes no quarter.

I return home tomorrow. I expect that I'll miss my folks and this house once I'm gone, but I really really miss my space and routine. I'm looking forward to my Chase burger before we go to the airport.

Quick side note: I spent yesterday in Mom's Accord driving around town. I learned to drive on her '88 Accord, so the fact that I was cruising around the old neighborhood in a car not too different (better engine, though) from what was the closest thing to "my car," remembering the timing on the traffic lights and when one shifts going up this or that hill was somewhat comforting.

No problem. I felt I got quite an appropriate percentage of [livejournal.com profile] mizarchivist quality time. Plus, your folks are no slouches to be hanging out with. I quite throughly enjoyed the company of so many intelligent adults (intelligent - read: laughs at my jokes) :)
