I'm starting to get enough energy back for a real post. I'm going to do a short-ish, short on details bit here, then a longer, more in-depth one in the opt-in/Sprog filter.
So, Friday, it seems like real labor is starting- holy crap. It gets rolling within hours so that contractions are only 5 min. apart , whic is when they say Go To The Hospital.
primal_pastry agreed to act as doula, had been keeping watch over the whole evening's proceedings, so off we went a bit after midnight.
... And then I stalled out. We were up all night and when it was clear nothing useful was going to happen anytime soon, they sent us home.
Saturday I rested, did little and 'round 7 things started to get interesting.
primal_pastry came back after taking a few hours to do her own thing. asciikitty had been there much of the afternoon (as usual) so we chilled and waited to see what would happen. And lo, things picked up and another middle of night trek to BIDMC, arriving at 2am this time.
... time passes.... drugs administered... progress fails to be made. MORE time passes. It's getting on to be a full 24 hours there and despite all, it's just not coming together. And then I spike a low fever. By 4:30 am today, the only logical answer: C-section.
At 5:41 this morning, Crime Fighter, aka, Little Bean (I'm leaving his real name off LJ) was safely delivered at 8lbs 4 oz., 21 inches long.
So, we planned for a particular birth experience and ended up throwing just about all of it out the window.
Given that I've now had Major Abdominal Surgery, and have to deal with potential infection in me and Crime Fighter's issues this afternoon with low blood sugar taking him up to NICU (just in case) - We will be here most of the week. If people are keen on visiting in the hospital, do call ahead.
(obviously needed ETA): Many many many thanks to
quiet_elegance and
primal_pastry for getting me through the most intense set of days in my life to date. I'm able to be exceptionally with it and together for this life-changing event.

Yeah, same here. As long as you're both okay, though...that's the important thing.
Congratulations, mama! :)

I am pretty sure that happens more often than not.
Ilana and I would love to come visit (and bring food!) when you're home.

My recollection of the NICU was that as soon as we named the baby, helpful volunteers began decorating her isolette with little nameplates and birthday cards and whatnot. I thought it looked like a preview of her bedroom in thirteen years. If young Crimefighter needs some superhero postcards or a few metal bands to round out his decor, let me know and I'll bring them by.

We'll see you once we're back and you're out of the hospital.

I think my week is far too busy to stop by, I'm sorry, but I'm sure you'll have plenty of awesome visitors :)

I believe I have not said this in a while
OK, slightly better now. Q_e was discouraging on the subject of visits this week but if it seems like an idea I will be the germ-free representative of our household. Also, there will be A Mail soon.
