Hunger Games: query

I have the option of trying to see The Hunger Games tonight after The Crime Fighter has been put to bed. I would likely choose a theater really close to home and with a start time between 7:30-8. It's a 2 hour 22 min. long film and I'm going to work Monday... 

Alternatively: I could consider using some of my comp time that I earned today by leaving work early and seeing a matinee at The Commons theater, then going home at a normal-ish hour.

I think I like Plan 2 better. However--if I have someone who wants to come with me, it would likely sway my decision. What say the peanut gallery?

I want to see the movie, but ideally in a theater with the fancy screen and sound and stuff, not one of the tiny indy theaters. Which theater were you thinking of for tonight?

Sadly, probably one of the cruddier houses if I went tonight: Arlington or Fresh Pond. That's part of the sell of going to a matinee at The Common, because those are super-good seats.

Well as it happened I have a 1:30 meeting in your office on Monday... I would not at all be opposed to following that up with a matinee showing of Hunger Games.

Ah hah! I've been fomenting plans (contingent on it not being a huge hassle on the management me being somewhat spontaneous) involving debsquared and a 2:10 showing at The Common. That might be cutting it close for a tech meeting, but I'll keep you in the loop!

A and I went to see it on Sunday, and on the whole I thought it was a pretty good adaptation.

I have a serious beef w/ the director's use of handheld cameras, though. The herky-jerky style starts w/ the opening scene, and probably 70-80% of the movie is filmed that way.

I'd strongly recommend sitting in the rear third of the theater, especially if you go to the a big-screen place.

Aside from shaky-cam tricks, which I loathe, the story itself is spot-on to the source material. Yeah, they cleaned up some of the sub-plots but it rang 100% true for me. I'm very glad I went to see it.
