I grin.

On things I don't grin about, I am suffering from a minor bout of feel like I was hit by a truck post-dental visit.
+ My tooth is fixed
- it was 20% more expensive than they said because
- it was hella bigger than they thought
+ the filling is tooth colored.
- they were more specific about cost of a root canal and the accoutrements that go with. I'll be calling about their long term pay plan shortly.
+ chocolate banana muffins with my coffee to look forward to. Yay comfort sugar.

My mouth doesn't hurt at all, but after the acrobatics of keeping my mouth open and being tense as hell for a full hour, I have a sore throat and my torso aches something fierce.

I did some self jaw massage before the root canal and I had no jaw pain after. The first event that took 3 hours I did not massage my jaw and I did feel rather wiped. If you have to go in again and want tips on where to rub, let me know :)

Not sure what you were doing to make your torso hurt... chest, yes, but the whole torso? What did you do to yourself my dear?

I was very tense witht the drilling and the trying (sometimes failing) not to swallow the debris, so I was achy. Back is better. :)

D'you have any idea how long it takes to blend food coloring til the muffins come out exactly tooth-colored? It takes consummate skill! *nods sagely*

The whole tooth and nuthin but the tooth...Personally, I always choose the metal fillings, unless its in a front tooth, the reasons?
1. they cost a lot less.
2 they last up to 20 years longer.
3. Because they last so much longer, you have to replace them less often. when you replace a filling you have to take away more tooth structure each time getting a larger and larger filling each time.
4. they dont shrink up nearly as much. Shrinkage as we all know is bad
* grins* that causes fractures around the edges that bacteria get into and then you get secondary decay around the filling.
5 they actually keep bacteria away. A little something called the Oligodynamic effect...whilst the tooth colored ones retain bacteria more than normal enamel.

But they are pretty! Just thought Id give you my prof opine for future use.

Apparently you have no concern of mercury poisoning from the fillings. There is a debate raging over whether or not there is a danger. (Google mercury poisoning dental fillings and you'll find lots of stuff). Obviously, it's a personal choice.

Nope, no concern whatsoevah. Mixing mercury with the other alloys- tin, zinc, etc. renders it safe. Hydrogen and Oxygen are poisonous to us as well if taken in alone, yet we drink them in everyday in a little thing called water. The molecular structure renders it safe. You can google anything and get a debate. ( Heck, there are people out there that think FOX puts on a real news show!) I agree, It is a personal choice, But being in the dental field for the past 24 years and recently having updated my education in the field,( 26 mind-numbing college courses in dentistry that I thought would never end!) I like to tell a friend the most up-to-date facts, not hearsay going round the net.

Hell. Well, too late now.
... when will I stop feeling like a truck has run me down? My tonsils are still rocklike and feeling sick to my stomach is registering a negative on the fun side.
The aspirn seems to have made my throat finally stop hurting *some*, but dude. :( If I need to go to the doctor to make this suck less, I wanna get it over with.

Ive never heard of someone getting sick from a filling. However, If you need a root canal, you may have an infection, in which the sublingual and deep cervical lymph nodes would be effected giving you owies like that. You need penvk or whatever type of antibacterial you can take. Or, It could be completely coincidental and the stress from the filling could have lowered your immune system and you got a bug. If you can take advil take some of that as Aspirin only has analgesic qualities and no real anti-inflammatory like Advil. Advil rocks! ( If you can take it)

I figured I probably swallowed some of the debris from getting the old filling out and the new filling in- the throat started freaking within 12 hours of the last dental visit, but I can believe stress is a factor, because they didn't give me lube when they probed my wallet. (well, more like anticipating lack of lube for the root canal). I don't have a fever or anything, so I take some comfort in that.
