My 100

mizarchivist: (Jess & irises)
[personal profile] mizarchivist
Over 3 years ago, I did the 100 things about me meme and some of those things are inaccurate now, so I wanted to re-do it. I've kept some but mostly they are new. Go here to see the original-   Here we go. 100 things about me.
Baseline history/ family-
  1. I was born in Boston on April 24, 1975 sometime in the morning at the Women’s Lying In Hospital (now part of Brigham and Women’s)
  2. My parents moved back to Ohio when I was 9 months old, although I know Mom really didn't want to go back. But the housing market was (and still is) expensive
  3. My mom is the 2nd oldest out of 5 siblings, My dad is the 2nd oldest out of 4 siblings.
  4. Both of them grew up in alchoholic environments
  5. My parents are really cool
  6. I am an only child
  7. The age gap between my youngest uncle (Will) and me is 10 years. The age gap between that youngest uncle and his sister (Aunt Leslie) is 20 years. I have a cousin (Genivieve) who is 25 years younger than I am.
  8. My parents still live in the house we moved into in 1980 (the year I started kindergarten)
  9. My grandmother helped establish the Unitarian church I went to as a kid
  10. Growing up, my mom owned an art store; I'd stay there after school often and I started to hone my organizational skills there.
  11. We had cats growing up: Kiki, Shadow, Max, Merlin, Cosmo, Lily. While we had Cosmo, I became allergic
  12. My parents have hosted AFS exchange students- Barbro from Norway, 1992/3; Basak from Turkey, 1993/4; Nina from Finland and Iris from Austria, 1995/6; Claire from France, 1995/6; Teresa from Italy, 1996/7; Frederica from Germany, 2000/01.
  13. My parents got a dog a few years ago. I never thought I'd see the day
  14. I have 2 nieces via [profile] quiet_elegance's brother and sister in law, and lots of friends' kids who call me Aunt
  15. [profile] quiet_elegance and I got married November 7, 1998.
  16. I kept my surname.
  17. I have lived in Lexington with [profile] quiet_elegance and [profile] purple_terror since 2002
    School
  18. The elementary school I went to was across the street from my house
  19. That school is now closed due to money mismanagement and the property is going to be filled with condos someday soon.
  20. I hated junior high
  21. Choir was great in junior high; art class was more fun than choir in high school
  22. I got chicken pox my first week of high school
  23. I wish I had more of a chance to move ahead in math but I've never liked the subject
  24. I wanted to go to Antioch for college
  25. My dad convinced me to go to Ohio University instead, but not until I'd spent a year in community college
  26. My degree from OU is in history, although I was an English major for about a quarter. I didn't want to analyze Shakespeare or Ibsen ever again.
  27. Everyone thought I'd go to school for art. I wanted to get a job when I was done, though.
  28. He also suggested that I become a librarian when I was in high school, which stuck. I just didn't know I'd be an archivist until I was applying for graduate school
  29. Went to Simmons Library and Information Science program in Boston straight from Ohio U.
Friends and so forth (this is a harder section to fill in than I thought)
  30. My 3 best friends from grade school all had kids before they were 20. Amy has 3, Grace has 4, Stacy has 2.
  31. Amy and I have known each other since we were in diapers and we're still close.
  32. I had more boyfriends in junior high than high school
  33. The focal point for my friends in at Ohio U was the Unitarian group, although I almost never went to church
  34. I regret hurting my ex, Dan, but I also know he's not likely to let go of the hurt I caused (and it's been 10 years)
  35. It's very difficult for me to let friends go and allow ourselves to grow apart.
    Mental workings & Foibles
  36. I put in the divisions into this list because I am an organizer to the bone. According to [personal profile] ahf, if you give me a pile of rocks, I will find 3 different features by which I will sort them. She is so not wrong.
  37. We didn't have a TV until I was 14, and then only because my then-boyfriend at the time convinced me to pester for it.
  38. I'm an ENTJ, but the E and N are very much on the 50% marks. I think E is at 60-70%, but I'm very, very J. (note bit about organizer)
  39. I loathe crowds and loud noise
  40. When I went to college, I suddenly got allergies and became lactose intollerant.
  41. When I was 3, I could outsnore my grandfather. Now that I can have milk again, it's at the top of the list of things I would like to change about me.
  42. My grandmother Marilyn's death was the most traumatic event of my life
  43. I don't have any phobias, per se, but I am not fond of heights and am averse to squishing big bugs

  45. I am the social secretary at my house
  46. I am not subtle
  47. I hope someday pinball will make a come-back
  48. If I am not careful, I forget to leave time for myself.
  49. Telling me something (how to do X, get to Y) only works so far, then I want to try it out for myself before I can take it at face value. This is similar to not being able to just take something as so without reasons for it being like that.
  50. Fixate? Yes, why do you ask? But I can also be distractable.
  51. But boy can I herd cats.
  52. My puritan work ethic can go to sleep for hours, sometimes days on end
  53. I don't do well just sitting and doing nothing.

Things that I can do - or have done
  63.  I accumulated 95% of all of my emergency room visits by the time I was 4: dog bite, broken leg, and 2 facial lascerations. Those 2 latter were within 6 weeks of each other
  64. Went to Disney World with my dad when I was 12 (bribe for being left behind when my parents went to the BVI the year before)
  65. During the summers of 1989 and 1990, I went to Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.
  66. I visited England when I was 13. My mother and I went
  67. I was an exchange student in Germany for a month when I was 17.
  68. My dad gave me a trip to Europe as a graduation present from college. I spent 5 weeks in ...many countries
  69. Learning how to say No and otherwise allowing myself limitations, which is tough when it means not being able to help someone to do [Foo].
  70. Having scary/irritating/confrontational/adult conversations without freaking. I'm not at 100$, but I'm getting there.

    Hobbies & Prefered distractions
  83. I have a Honda Rebel 250 motorcycle (that's new since the last list, woot!)
  84. I taught myself how to knit in college
  85. My current favorite distraction is using watercolors to make minature paintins and/or greeting cards
  86. With any luck, I'll regain my interest in doing clay projects soon.
  87. [profile] quiet_elegance and I have taken salsa dancing classes, which were fantastic.
  88. I've suckered my household into watching too many TV shows: Lost, Veronica Mars, and You Think You Can Dance being the most recent additions

  99. Sushi is possibly the best thing on earth. (Spoken like a true, late convert)
  100. This space intentionally left blank. I'm sure I missed something!
