I started Guilty Pleasures this week and haven't quite gotten to the 9th chapter (mind you the chapters are very short). Thus far I'm not really loving it.
For the Hamilton readers: Given it's a series, I'm sort of intent on reading them in chronological order and I'll suffer through the growing pains of the first book if the 2nd and 3rd books are worth it. I know she goes to the pr0n place eventually, and I'm OK with that, I suppose. It's just right now I'm more crafting than reading with my free time, so when I do read, I don't want to be bored. Grin.

I've read the series at least three times now, so I recommend sticking with it. :) I don't know if you ever saw the Buffy or Angel series on tv, but this series of books has somewhat similar (if perhaps a little less convoluted) story arcs that stretch along the length of several books.

I have never been able to get through Hamilton's books because Mercedes Lackey did it better. And that still wasn't great writing, it was just... entertaining reading (like potato chips), and loads better than this author.

She's done a lot of stuff, some slightly different genres, and a lot of cooperative efforts. I like her alone stuff better than the co-authoring, but it's still... goofy book stuff. :)

Diane Tregarde series stuff is the closest to this, IIRC. http://www.firebirdarts.com/mlackey/1diana01.shtml

Yes, the first book is rough. Very rough. I can't reread it (and I've reread all the others up to 9 at least once). I think after that one it begins building to my personal fave which is number 9, Obsidian Butterfly. At that point, she goes to the porn place and destroys the character. I much prefer her other story where she built the character to be OK in the porn place. btw, have you read Undead and Unwed?

They are, but I generally read them as a very snarky/sarcastic take on the "need to find a man" books. The first one set off my poly radar the worst, mostly because the "heroine" has the typical middle American reaction to the poly lifestyles of the vampires she interacts with. And by the end of the first book she has a man. So after that they just get funny. (i think my favorite so far is when she meets her half-sister, her dad with the devil. Her half sister was raised by devout Christians and is super nice (said in cheerleader voice) and has a flaming sword. very cool.)
