Caulay gave me Ani's latest, Educated Guess last night (along with probably the coolest tshirt Righteous Babe Records has ever circulated, which reads: "The Media Isn't Fooling Me" - and so today, I have popped in the new disk and started the process of repetitive listening.
I heard it once last night, but it was at Caulay's and I was much more interested in being social. I consider this round to be the actual first listen. I still haven't absorbed the words or even half of the melodies. I might by the 3rd repetition.
I very much believe that I picked up my music appreciation quirks from Dad: the man who will put [foo] on endless repeat til he knows it in his sleep. Mind you, he'll put it on repeat, then leave the house. Many a time there has been that Mom or I would come home to have the latest still on and Dad long gone. grin and a shake of the head
But, like Dad, music is more of a religion than church. And while I may ignore her for weeks at a time, Ani still has a monopoly on my affection and has since I first heard her 8 years ago. I feel extremely grateful that she chooses to crank out an album pretty much every 10 months.
