I left Friday 'round 10 and didn't have any snow to speak of beyond dancing swirls in the road until I got on the Taconic Pkwy.
It sort of got cruddy fast. The Taconic is only 2 lanes and is known for its heavy deer population. It's also known for its particularly timid drivers. I very carefully but emphatically passed half a dozen cars that were all going about 40 with their hazards on. Many in burly SUVs that theoretically could handle a widdle bitsy snow. All n' all, the journey to Poughkeepsie (Well, Staatsburg, really) took a little over 3 hours in the 1pm range.
My mother had gotten there the night before and the cousins were already home thanks to school pre-emptively being called off.  Given that it was a snow day, cousin Katherine's play was called off as well. That evening's activity: Series of Unfortunate Events, chosen by my cousin, Charlie, who's in the 3rd grade, iirc.
Saturday featured afternoon activity: sledding at a rather steep hill a mile or so from the house. I don't recall the last time I got to sled and I'd like to make sure that I don't wait another several years before I do so again. I'm keen on any local MA folk telling me where some decent hills are. The only place I've ever seen in my neck of the woods is a pathetic hill that's next to Mass Ave in East Lexington. It's notoriously overpopulated and not very impressive.
Since yesterday's hill was on private property, it was virgin snow that was shin-deep. It took quite a bit of doing to get it right and I had to stop not because I was tired but because my jeans (the only pair I brought- duh) were entirely soaked through. Ugh.  I suspect between the driving and the sledding it's little wonder I spent the afternoon (today) exaughsted.
Annie Get Your Gun was the musical entertainment at the high school. Katherine was one of the ensemble of chorus girls and she looked happy and relaxed on the stage. And poised :) Unfortunately, the orchestra only had 2 weeks to practice, and it really showed. The leading fella was not inspiring, but Annie was appropriately a firecracker. The boy who played Buffalo Bill was downright hawt. I was very glad to have gotten to share the experience.
The drive home today was reasonably uneventful, although a pit stop to refill all 4 tires to appropriate PSI was quite necessary. Funny how the car hates turning and breaking- particularly at the same time when each is down by about 15 PSI.
[personal profile] ahf and [personal profile] caulay's return from Lunacon was timely. They were kind enough to drop the art off on their way home. I sold the Balinese style Altoids tin and a big and fancy faux jade necklace. I also believe many cards were taken. That's a definite improvement over Boskone, where I sold nothing. Thanks to both for shepherding my stuff through. Unfortunately, I have no other con to send it off to for many months. It's time to start looking for craft fairs.
I'm looking forward to a free day tomorrow and a [personal profile] lifecollage-centric day on Tuesday. And Diesel. Yes, I'm actually using some of my vacation time! Shocking!

The church at the end of our street has a moderately nice hill on which they let people sled when conditions are right.

Glad you're enjoying yourself and hope to see you tomorrow.

If you can swing it, take a sled up Great Blue Hill and ride it down. You'll probably only be able to do it once (walking back up is a bear!), but man, what a sledding story...
