The library committee  heartily approved my sabbatical and it's now official. I will be out of the office from July 2 until September 28.  (!!!!!!) They decided that given the lionshare of my project-ness for this time is entirely to benefit the library, all those expenses: taking a class or 2, books, travel: these things will be reimbursed. ROCK. Next hurdle: determining that we have the money for part time help while I'm gone. Our admin said she may well be able to pick up more days to help some, which could help, but I still think we need another person around. We shall see.

The afternoon was spent moving an acre of books. Yak shaving at its finest:
1. My office is over-run with completed MCC (big processing project) boxes. I have about oh- 15 done and 4 waiting to be done. My office is sizeable but it's getting to be a bit much.
2. The shelves these boxes will be transferred to are on the 3rd floor of the stacks.
3. These shelves originally held part of the circulating collection. The bit that covers nature, science,  gender and age studies, philosophy, medical, and ethics.  This section is divided into approximately 10 parts. I'm in the middle of the 7th (and very very big) section.  Technically 3rd section, but I'm working backwards.
4. There is essentially 1 entire range and a half that has been cleared out after 10-3.4 were completed.
5. There is a separate section that mirrors this section on the 1st floor. Why? Because it was easier to have them down there than move acres of books 3 decades ago to make room for the new books.
6 Therefore now that we are deaccessioning over 1/2 of this section, we can move this appendix (in other words totally useless organ) back to where it should be.
7. But I forgot until I was already moving stuff already on the 3rd floor that I ought integrate now.
8. Our dumb waiter is dumbly broken.
9. I have to shift all these books up 2 flights of stairs (about 30 linear feet worth, total) with nothing but my limbs for help.
10. Remember 7? That means several sections are moved multiple times to accomodate the growing space needs.
11. Many shelves were adjusted and readjusted to be of correct height for that one 11" tall book in the row.
I was definitely living the role of Eveyln from the Mummy, but with no actual catastrophic failure. Much balancing of very tall stack of books under the chin, though. It's time for more drugs. I ache all over.
Oh. And the boxes in my office are still in my office. I will be delegating the shift to someone else tomorrow. But the irony doesn't escape me.

[personal profile] lifecollage and I had a date this evening in Davis Sq. Tibetan for dinner, hangout at Diesel, and ice cream. Happy and Happy Birthday, darlin'

And thanks to [personal profile] tamidon, I HAD to buy these shoes. Had to. I am having them overnighted to me because I want them by the weekend. For this I am a pod person, as I just about never give into the urge to buy something on the spot, much less rush delivery (which more than tripled the cost of the shoes, but given the shoes are 10 bucks, not the end of the world. Still. I am pod-like.)
