It actually wasn't so bad getting up so early. It didn't get REALLY hot and didn't REALLY start raining until we were 4/5 the way done with the riding part.... then not hard til we were in for the classroom again.

I can't think of a single other skill where you learn so much in 5 hours... When I got on at 7, I didn't know if I could even maintain speed/not stall/stay upright. At 12, I had gotten all the ultra basics, including gradual stop, quick stop, the nuances of the clutch, turning, weaving... and the fact that those bloody practice bikes they provide are almost impossible to get into neutral :P~~~~

The remainder of class, I was amazingly alert- the test was at the end and only missed 2! (96%)--- home now and while I am still on the adrenaline buzz and chipper, I figure I'll pass the hell out by 9 :)

Meri: It's amazing what one can force oneself to do (get up early) when the result of being late is being booted from the progam = $ 3-digit mistake.

And along that vein: even the schmuck who showed up late to class yesterday by an hour (skin of teeth/thin ice), ended up eating a full, hot sub at the break last night (bad form), bringing breakfast to the range, didn't have eye protection, tried to leave his jacket draped across one of the instructor's personal bike, and having a practice bike that make him look like a doof the first 20 min.... well, even he was doing well by the end of 5 hours.
