Very quick thing here for now...
We got to Bowling Green, saw my inlaws, had a decent time, didn't kill anyone and got to Mentor ok.
Also- the doctor called me yesterday.
I have MONO. Yep. Mono. My tonsils are still sore and my ear is still stuffy, but I'm not horribly incapacitated. I'll just be really careful not to over exert myself and take naps when I need to. I have no bloody clue how I managed to get this. I don't know anyone that has mono. I came back from Hartford and within 72 hours I was ill. So, I apologize if I exposed anyone to this. Bleh! I'll be looking at this more soon, but that's all I got now.

Sorry if I dive into a bit of medical jargony stuff here.
Mostly, mono is caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) which is also associated with chronic fatigue. EBV is one of those things you get and never really get rid of. CDC estimates 95% of American adults have some of the virus in them, so you probably weren't a source of infection for people over college age.
Even though we used to call mono "the kissing disease" in undergrad the reality is that you could have gotten EBV from anyone at any time and it was dormant in your body only to flare up now. Option B is that the person you kissed had EBV and you did not; when they passed it to you it flared into an active infection. Again looking at the CDC's info they say incubation periods can be as long as 6 weeks so it probably wasn't associated with your Hartford trip.
The other ways spit gets shared (toothbrushes, sneezes, shared drinks/food) can also pass EBV.
(The other cause of mono-like symptoms is CMV, cytomegalovirus, and it's nastier. I'm assuming your doc did a blood test and would've told you if you had CMV. CMV is also one of those "have it for life" viruses, so who knows.)
Mono is usually associated with liver problems so avoiding alcohol is generally good.
Anyway, enough medical stuffs. I'm glad you both survived the in-law visit in good shape

To add to what the hubby said there are 2 forms of the EBV. One, you have it in your system like you have residue after chicken pox. The other is that some people can have reoccurring EBV (which is what I was told I had). As far as I know I have not had an active case of EBV since 1992 but I haven't had a blood test to check recently.
Glad the trip to the rents went ok and there was no bloodshed :)
Enjoy your trip.

I incorrectly diagnosed Jay and I with Mono earlier this year, when we were both so tired. Hope it's over quickly for you!
