Foibles of my family: Birthdays
Technically it's
quiet_elegance's birthday today. He's 33. However, several years ago he stopped celebrating in December for some obvious reasons: everyone's in a dither over $WinterHoliday$ and it's dark, cold, and depressing. Possible present score is pretty low for anyone from here til -what- at least NYE if not sometime after. So, in a tradition started by my father, he moved his birthday to a better month. Dad chose March, QE chose June, for a more symmetrical effect and much better grilling weather. Dad's been at this for about 20 years now, so I'm so well trained I entirely forgot that Dad's birthday was Sunday and that QE's was today until I was reminded.
Mind you, my dad's extra weird. He not only moved his birthday, he rounds to the nearest 5. He's technically 60 now, but he's been calling himself 60 for a number of years. I'll have to chide him that he can't move to 65 when he insists on doing so next year. He has to wait to the midpoint, don'tchaknow. This rounding started the year he changed birthdays: 39 to 40 in 3 months!
Anyway, I just thought I'd share this bit of oddness. I guess it's sort of like with President's day, actual vs. observed. Or something.
