I'm back from Newport. The conference was good. I will NOT be taking Amtrak to get there ever again. Lesson learned. Newport Harbor Hotel: good, but stinks of potpourri in the hall. But, fantastic for downtown activities. Mansions!! And the tour guide tsked and said "they're chateaus or 'summer homes.' " OK, jackass, they're mansions. Get over yourself. Just sayin'. I went to The Elms. Or as I've renamed it in my head: Pemberly (Pride and Prejudice ref for the non-Austen fans). Now I know why the peasants revolted.
I might have more to say about the conference, but the thing I walked away with was that I feel like I'm becoming really Known amongst my archive community. It's sort of surreal. It's mostly good, I hope. But I'm not shy (duh) and I Do Stuff. Much of it good. Thanks to
lifecollage for being a good sport and coming down even if it wasn't her flavor of LIS. Oh- and we ate dinner at The Black Pearl. Very fun in and of itself.
And yeah. I have this tin that I made last week. It is going into the auction for Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band benefit.
bbbsg likes it at least. I am satisfied. This one shows the scale of it. Ideally it ought be filled with Lindt truffles or something. Top picture and side picture.
