I do go on and on. I'm definitely writing for myself more than anyone else. Just so you know.
I'm constantly in a state of comparison when I'm here: then from now- Home and how this isn't it.  Example- Cleveland circle- the rotary going up to the Art museum. People bloody STOP in the middle of the rotary to yield to the traffic coming in from 2 directions. What the shit is that?! Really. Totally. Broken. It was then when I said "back home, they don't do that. This is dumb," or something like it, then realized that this used to be home. Oh yeah. I hope it doesn't hurt my parents' feelings too much not to relate to this place.
Coventry. Slowly being cleaned up. Record Rev. is 1/3 the size it once was, but at least it's still there. I bought a ky-oot "New York" hat (pictures later, I'm sure), some little hoop earrings, and some burnables. I got distracted and forgot to get the fishnets, which were more a gesture than a desired clothing item. Finding burnables and earrings there are definitely a throw-back to ages 16-19.
Tibetan imports didn't have any hippy clothes I desperately wanted, but I did find some other worthies. I stopped short of buying the abalone and silver bracelet that I thought gorgeous, but then remembered I don't wear bracelets at all. I just make them for hot redheads.
Tommy's for dinner. Again ages 16-19 I always had the FF grilled cheese and french fries there. FF: meunster and grilled mushrooms on pita. I stopped short at the chocolate shake, though. Dammit. They're so good.
Arabica is gone and there' s clearly not much hanging out up at the top of the hill any more. The coffee shop we did go to a few doors down from my old and gone favorite did have some FUN drinks, including quiet_elegance's old favorite: Milkyway: hot chocolate, caramel syrup and espresso. It jacked me up something fierce for the symphony, which actually wan't a requirement. Not when they play Mozart I pretty much know by heart.
Symphony... le sigh. I may have mentioned in my rambly chatter that I spent 2 summers at Interlochen. I maintain they were the best two summers of my life. You can't help but soak up culture. Even if you don't play an instrument, you breathe in music. I remember waking up relatively early on Sunday mornings and going down to Kresge to hear the inter-denominational service for the brass choir alone. Love-love-love. I had forgotten how much I appreciate watching an orchestra play. I'm not sure I really knew how to sit through live classical before those summers, but now I can. Dad was kind and we left after the Bartok piano concerto. The last piece of the night was apparently some god-awful modern piece that revels in dissonence. Nahh. Uchida, the pianist was a delight to watch. The Bartok was interesting, although it ended all of a sudden for me. I was just getting into it.

It really has been a jam-packed (strawberry) day. I got up with Mom to go to school with her. I don't know how many of us have a chance to go back to high school for regular class hours and not be part of the system. It's kind of cool. Since Mom teaches yearbook and art, it's not like there's want of things to keep me occupied while we're there. I did discover I can still render, especially when I set up the grid on the reference and paper. I did a a challenging Gwyneth Paltrow b&w retro mod/Vogue-like bit. It's all about finishing it off with an Ebony pencil. I even dispensed some advice to the children half my age. Mom taught me, I have 15-18 years practice. Mom taught me well, so yeah- I can boss them around. And since I'm 2.0 version of my mom in many repects, they took my coaching in good form, I think.

She only teaches until lunch, so we escaped early and went to one of the near-by spas as part of Mom's birthday present. I think [personal profile] lifecollage and mom were jointly responsible for getting me interested in pedicures. Going to do some spa-like thing has become a semi-regular occurance when 1.0 and 2.0 get together. She has a very moisturized and toned face. I have purpley-black toes.

True, but in such a beautiful place, just saturated with music. I was up once between sessions, playing at being a conductor in one of the performance spaces while my elders were doing Something Important, and I remember feeling like all the music was still there, just waiting for me.

One of my fondest memories of you is of being taken to discover Coventry. And eating Papa John's pizza for the first time. Weird, the things that stick with you.
