After some brainstorming with [livejournal.com profile] milknut last week, we determined a preferred breakfast would be yogurt and granola.

At first I was planning on making the granola. My aunt does and I remember it being tasty. However, when I went to the co-op for all the ingredients, I was eyeing the 10 or so varieties of granola and thinking why exactly am I planning on turning on the oven in heat like this?! So, 2 types bought: vanilla almond and hemp (they taste about the same to me. I'm such a cretin) and plain yogurt. (It was Brown Cow brand, miss milknut)

Being the odd duck I am, I really dislike watery yogurt. However I'm blessed with a clever mom and her trick is simply to take a coffee filter and the single serving filter holder and strain it down to a thicker consistancy. For those who wish a sour cream substitute, this works very well. After some experimenting, I determined that one should only strain half of the tub. If one does the whole thing, it's no longer so great for having w/ granola: just too thick.

My upbrining and body's preferance is less sugar than more in my yogurt, so the plain seemed the better choice- Then the suguar is absolutely controlled. Honey is good, but our bottle has crystalized and I've not yet fixed this. The strawberry jam was very good today. There's something very satisfying to have lightly sweetened, still very tangy yogurt with the crunchy granola.

Now let's see if this food choice keeps me going til lunch!!

Captain Naptime has returned from 2 weeks vacation. Fearless Leader is out til Wed. or Thurs., and we are beset by the theological students who always decend upon us for an entire week in August. They'll be in our conference room most of the day, emerge around lunch time and request many many objects, to Robin's frustration. The old gentleman: member of the board, retired pastor, and avid historian will be here all week, too. He loves to talk my ear off about shit I really don't care about. However, I feel obligated to feign interest and insist I don't mind his meanderings. He's well into his 80s and extremely supportive of the library. Good public relations require this sort of diplomacy/lying. This does not mean that I don't work very hard at avoiding seeing him. Like I did this morning.
Oh, and Captain Naptime has never updated Windows. So he had 39+ patches waiting when I checked. Thankfully it's not quite so slow as last week. And he is slightly less clueless than the rest of the folk (Robin and Barbara are not in this category: they are wonderful, smart women who are a joy to be near, especially when discussing tech stuff)- He seemed happy to let it run for the hours it would need and then restart and go through the process again.
