Let's see-- Odds and ends, really:
  • After what felt like an eternity (2 weeks?) I got to rollerblade yesterday - and see Bob-the-Rollerblader, which is always fun. We tend to talk about girls and movies more than anything else.
  • I do believe this is my 5th week going to the gym already. Time to step up to 3x a week, I think. I tried a program on the elliptical today, but chose the wrong level and I had to keep bumping up the resistance from zero to something more than zero. Finally in the last 5 min. I bumped it up so much, it said "screw you" and reverted to manual mode. If a machine can be in a huff, it was. grin
  • Friday [personal profile] caulay and I continued our habit of going to see the Indigo Girls- Lowell summer music program. The GIrls are always good. They never disappoint me. Usually it's the people in our vicinity who harsh my mellow. The 3 couples in front of us (3 inches away- grab some ground and hope the people in front of you don't have super-tall chairs) were distracting but at least didn't ruin things for me. It was definitely a learning experience. When we go for Brandi Carlile at the beginning of August, I think I'll try to convince c. to leave even earlier if his work allows, not try to sit on the grass at all and bring comfier, bigger chairs.
  • As is the way of things, I overdid it in the kitchen yesterday and work gets to benefit from my labors. Banana muffins. I also made angel food cake. It's very tasty but not angel-like in appearance. In cooling it fell. Damn it. I think I have a technique for next time to keep that from happening :(
  • Additionally, I've pulled out the clay again. [personal profile] emerlion requested a Serenity tea tin, which is now ready for baking. Also on the docket is a pencil holder for work - a half mason jar that was left behind sans lid- Hopefully it'll work out. My current containment is a coffee mug, which is OK, but if it's holding pencils, it can't hold liquid. This replaced the skudgy plastic cup that I'd used for 7 years (geeeez). My habit is to catch up on tv series while doing this- I watched all the Six Feet Under (season 3) I had on Saturday then returned to West Wing for a re-watch of season 4.
  • Less than a week from the Flea, so I'm helping Danny- I went over somewhat spontaneously on Saturday night. I fear his upcoming move. So much to do. So much not going with him, for sure. But, in the end I hope cutting away the excess stuff will reinvigorate.
  • A trip to Target yesterday yielded a significant amount of new clothes- half work-like, half work-out. I also bought bendy curlers. My hair is just about long enough to do this, although I will need help getting them in without it being a royal mess. I tried it out briefly yesterday and even with only slightly damp hair and some product, it wanted to curl. I'm hoping to debut curly at the flea to go with ze Steam Punk ensemble. Good goddess. I've gone to the girly-girl place.
  • I plan on going to Diesel tomorrow. I've been very much wanting some Queso. I'm also meeting up for ice cream at the end of the evening with a former intern who went away and came back over the winter. I believe he was my second one and he was pretty easy to talk to.
So yeah. Nothing earth-shatteringly exciting. People keep asking me what's new, and I feel like there's nothing much to say. Shrug

Re: summer concerts - lots of folks show up wicked early and plant their chairs, then go off to have dinner and drinks or just to shop and walk. So, feel free to do that Had I thought of it, I would have planted my chair at noontime. ;-) As it was, I ran into some friends from college and they had a tiny piece of real estate in front of them, so I parked it there.

I showed up at 7:15PM and it was a total zoo. I would have had to sit on the street way in the back if not for finding these friends and their tiny patch of land.

And there were folks arriving an hour AFTER me. Holy crap.

I saw concert folks wandering around downtown as early at 3PM.

I have no objections to leaving earlier. It should help with the traffic too.

As for planting chairs and getting food, that's pretty much what we did. It's just that we planted them at about 5:45 clearly most others had done so prior to 4pm.

Thanks again for the remote mini-concert....it was one of the lighter points of my weekend. ;^) I'm glad you could hear well, if not see.

I wonder if the angel food cake falling is related at all to the humidity? That tends to muck with baking and things rising.

*grump*

I had a rising situation. I was doing no knead bread. You let it sit on counter overnight to rise slowly. But sudden apartment showing Sunday led to bread being horribly overrisen. It came out...kind of dense and chewy. Still bread, but not what I wanted.

Pygment should have a tin for you at Diesel tonight - it's a small one. She also needs a particular item made.

Back in the dark ages when I did baking I used to cool angel-food cakes upside-down. The trick was to find a beer bottle or similar on which the ring pan could be rested so that it sat safely up from counter height.

here's a picture of someone using what looks like a wine glass to get the same effect: http://www.foodmayhem.com/uploaded_images/04-Cooling_Upside_Down-747503.JPG
