So, despite feeling uninspired, I went to the gym. It did nothing to wake me up. I have since remembered I took a generic Zyrtec last night. The bottle's warning includes one for sleepy. I wouldn't call what I am sleepy. I feel like I've been wrapped in a lead blanket. But! I can breathe. I'm not sure this is a trade off I want.

Has anyone else experienced this scenario? Does it get better? Thanks to the power of technology, I can also ask my doctor via email, but I'm still curious. Interesting. The lead blanket extends to my fingers. Typing is hard.

I had a similiar slightly more intense reaction to Zyrtec.

Not so much sleepy as feeling like all my limbs had been weighted down and my head was in a fog. The one and only time I took it, it took me 2 hours to drag myself out of bed the next morning.

I was told to drink lots of water to accelerate it out of my system...I'm not sure it helped much.

Yep, that was the feeling. I hope your doc replies with something helpful.

Before Claritin (and the generic loratidin), I was usually smacked in the face with a shovel by my antihistamines. I routinely considered them worse than the allergies, until my allergies got monumentally worse.

It does not get better until you find a medication which both works and allows you to function. In my experience.

I get my loratidin from Costco for three cents a pill.

It has been my experience that this feeling does not come from particular medications but from the lack of oxygen and often the associated poor quality of sleep. If I take something to ease my breathing then the feeling usually abates.

Basically, my brain ends up starved and as you so aptly put it "filled with sludge."
