Chinese Dragon

For your consideration....
I started this before Dragon Con, appropriately enough. Hm. I don't seem to recall why I wanted to do this- other than I seem to have a thing for Dragons, I'm reading Elizabeth Bear's Whiskey and Water, which makes one ponder dragons some, and... oh yeah. It's totally COOL.


 

 

And now I'm very tired and it's time to rest my excessively aching back. I'll likely re-take pictures more officially after it's been cooked and finished.
I'm not a very fast learner, though (wrt pain/crafting)- I have plans to do this style- same shaped dragon, different color for him and the background. I also plan on using the medallions scattered around the sides in at least one color. Not enough hours in the day.

OMG sweetie, that's GORGEOUS. I am so impressed. It must have taken ages and ages. And the colour scheme is beautiful. Did you have a drawing to work from?

Apropos, one of the little clay magnets fell to the floor yesterday (the winged dragon) and the tip of the wing broke off. But I glued it with no trouble and it looks (almost) as good as new.

of course, the one I am constructing in my head will supplant this one... maybe. I would like to do one where the background is sky and clouds. The question then becomes what would be the best color for that kind of dragon...

It took me a few weeks (with some breaks) to get this one done. A very long pause between finishing the dragon and doing the background.
Unlike several tins I've done, this one doesn't have a continuation from lid to body, which then has to be cut apart before baking. When I do another, I want to make that kind of separation more deliberate. Also, see commentary to Lycaena re: colors/background.

I took several drawings to make the tracing for this one. Yes, I kept them :)

Sorry to hear about the magnet swan dive. They *will* do that. I've moved to the super-duper magnets (rare earth) for all that are made from here on out. They won't fall on their own, then. I've glued more clay together than I can count. If that makes you feel better. Superglue is the best.

Red! A fire dragon in a blue sky.

Given that this one was red/bronze and blue/silver won't really contrast that background, how about green/gold?

Yeah.... But brighter than this one, yeah? I was thinking of emphasizing the coppers and golds/orange-red to contrast with the blue sky.

Jade dragon absolutely has appeal, but maybe not with the cloud background.
