PSA: FYI: Dancing.
So, if you- for some unknown reason- depend on my occasional fangirl moments about a particular show, here's your reminder:
Season 5 SYTYCD has been launched. Despite
badlittlemonkey telling me this a bit ago, I did not grok they're doing season 6 This. Fall. Robin was here for the first auditions tonight and apparently Fox programmers saw 2/3 of the year with the same time requirements between this show and Idol that they'd just keep going with back to back choreographic goodness. I'd call this a solid win for me!

Did you watch the season opener? what did you think about the two, male samba dancers from Denver? Or more specifically, the judges reaction? I was quite turned off. I mean, yeah there is tradition and "industry standard", but they're doing this show that is bringing dance to whole new audiences who don't have preconceived notions about the industry's 'traditions', so I think they shouldnt be such sticklers about their reception to new things. They aren't when it comes to new styles of dance, so why would they about partnering? Nigel's comment about 'alienated a whole set of our audience' ticked me off, because he in turn alienated a whole bunch more. end rant.

Second: Nigel represents the generational divide that makes getting the gay marriage bills so tough to pass. When he talks about alienating the audience, he means him. And parents. Or grandparents. The ones who'll call up and complain. I suspect Mary feels a bit similarly and that Sonja mimed it because she had to fit in- I'd have thought she'd show more spine, but he is her boss n' all. We know Sonja isn't averse to alt. lifestyle- puhleeese! Also- what would have it been like if Adam had been judging that day? That would have been more telling.
As for the boys themselves- the outfits were just too cheesy. I realize that's what professional ballroom is all about but wow. In this occasion, I bet that didn't help the case. And perhaps if they were able to give more meta/intro? But Nigel's still an old lame British dude. Hm. Obvy., I have some feeling on the matter.
