The phone number I had since I was 5 is gone. It makes sense, why pay for a line when the only incoming calls are pleas for money from XYZ cause? Certainly not to provide a child (who's not a child) who's not lived in that house for 16 (dear gods) years a link to her past. Time to suck it up and actually memorize both my parents primary number for real already. Some numbers should be memorized, them's be two of them. Still, it's a passing of an icon, and it's a minor sadness to me.

On the frivolous side: I will have a top hat by the end of the month. (that image represents style, not color). Happy birthday to me

The initial reason I got a cell phone was because I was moving to another town and wanted to keep the phone number I had for 20 years and all my friends knew. So I put it on my cell phone. Currently I still keep my parent's number active albeit with thoughts of getting fios some day. But I do understand the sadness ...

When my parents moved to Germany for a couple years, they didn't have their old number made inactive; when they moved back, they had a new number.

I still don't know the new number.

The old one had been through an area code split or two, but I remember it even though it hasn't been valid for several years now....
