New rule for attending craft fairs: I will stay in the 495 circle unless there is incontrovertible proof my day will feel like a success. I leave that goal ambiguous because sometimes success doesn't mean money, although really--- if it's an event where I'm attempting to sell stuff, that's the obvious one.

So with that preamble, I will say first (or now second): Thank You to [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage  for taking the gamble with me, acting as gofer, booth babe, and so on. It's rare that we get a whole day together so for that: it was a win.

The not good:
  • So- more rural area/small town
  • Industrial area- no foot traffic
  • HORRIBLE lighting (20 watt feel and high ceilings) - very few outlets, so even if I had lights with me... yeah.
  • Most visitors were there to see someone vending, not people there interested beyond their person
  • Holiday weekend
  • (Guessing here) not much publicity.
  • Sudden and emphatic rain. In fact All the rain from ever within the span of half an hour
  • Sudden and surprising waterfall inside during the latter half of said storm. That sort of was the death rattle. Everyone started packing up before the theoretical 5pm end.  We drove back into that rain and that was by far the least fun part of the day.

Trying to stay somewhat upbeat: the better:
  • I did sell some stuff. This is better than some folks, I am sure. I wasn't keeping track regarding breaking even, as such. I might have if you don't consider food consumed or gas purchased to get there.
  • I did buy and trade for some stuff.
  • The new top hat was worn. Turns out if I use one of the 2 hair falls I have to pad the inside, it doesn't cause instant headache. People LOVED the hat. How could they not?
  • Table set up really good. I will use my metal tree to display jewelry again. My fuzzt pictures really don't do it justice, trust me it was way cool.
  • Again: had company
  • Saw [livejournal.com profile] folzgold  and bought a very nifty card holder from him.
  • After dropping lifecollage at her party, I came home to a full meal prepared by quiet_elegance: steak, baked potato, salad with homemade croutons from the very fresh ciabatta--- yeeeeah. That was the best part of the day.

Great from yesterday: [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage  got to meet Chef Sang and have sushi with us. I gave him the bento box and he was pretty amazed.

I will be working on watercolors for a while. Mostly because I have hit my capacity on storing tins. I'm definitely in the market to find another craft fair closer to home in the next 4-6 months and definitely the before Christmas ones. This is just getting silly.
