Did I mention that I've been planning on going to Italy for about 2 years? - Meaning it's been something I've wanted to do for that amount of time, not be gone that long.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] purple_terror  finally bought the plane tickets. I guess we're really going. So, gone from October 22-29. Start off in Rome (where we are landing, then go north to Florence/Sienna/Pisa. We can fly home via Pisa, so that makes things come together much more reasonably. [livejournal.com profile] quiet_elegance and Miss R. will be going as well: the DragonCon-'08 crew! Aie?

Congrats on Italy! We'll be there in October as well; we have been planning on having our honeymoon there at the beginning of the month. Enjoy it!

WONDERFUL! You know I'm a raging Italophile (and I'd be hideously envious only I've got plans to go in March...)

I must also recommend a WONDERFUL FABULOUS restaurant in Florence, Casalinga, in Alta Arno about half a block from Santo Spirito (I THINK that's the church, I can look it up.) The address is 8 Miccholozzi (or the street name is something like that.) Amazing.

You will have an incredible time and we all expect pictures.

Oh, and Vivoli, which is reputed to be either the best gelato in Florence, or the best in Italy. Since I have not sampled every gelato (in every flavor) in either Florence or Italy, I cannot say if the claim is entirely true. More data is needed.

It's near Santa Croce (the tourist board says go to Piazza Santa Croce and follow the cartons in the waste baskets. This actually works.)

I know Tuscany (and Venice) far better than I know Rome and I'm hoping for a few recommendations on that end for when I go in March. (Mostly that trip will be around Naples/Pomepii, but we'll be spending some time in Rome too.)
