I finally looked up exactly how far it is from my house to Alewife on the bike path. Not 6, but 6.4 miles. Mwah hah! Today's time: 20-ish minutes. I started off the season at about 35, I think. This is all in that one direction. Coming home--- totally different story.
Someone must have doped my vitamins because I actually went out and ran. Outside. On purpose- at the end of circuit class today. We had some of the old guard attendees who were all pumped up to do one more thing before calling it quits. I really don't recall the last time I ran. We estimate the block's about .25 miles, so a lap on the track, but with more cracks, trash, and pedestrians...and sometimes cars.  But, I did it! Go me.

Do any of the long hairs out there have a solution- other than a haircut- for the rubber band induced headaches? My hair seems to have gained about 2 pounds this week. I think it has a lot to do with the humidity and never drying. But I swear, I have been doing the usual keep-off-neck tactics I have done for the past many months, but now there's always a hint of extra tension to win out over gravity.

I did better with bun type styles when my hair got longer - it better distributed the weight. if you can manage them with sticks or pins instead of bands/barrettes, it also helps.

Scrunchies do better than rubber bands for headaches, too.

I've been piling my bun on the top of my head so it looks like a dollop of whipped cream. Others may think it looks silly, but it keeps it off of my neck and doesn't pull on my neck. An extra bonus that I discovered is when I take it down, it's all curly. I eliminate the need for bobby pins because I don't pull the "tail" all the way through, but let the band hold the end.

I don't know what sort of hair bands you use, but I have found that the larger/thicker ones without the metal on them cause less of what you're describing than the thin black ones.

this.

Also, a double ponytail thing - pull the top of your hair into a ponytail (or pull it back with a barrette or a pair of clips or whatever) and then put all your hair into a ponytail - maybe doubling it to keep it more on top of the head. It's not super cute, but it means that the weight's more distributed, and you're not pulling the hair in front back super tightly.

I find that clips hold nearly as well without the harsh pull. Also recently realized that two small clips are more effective than one big one, and will allow for doing a bun instead of a twist.

Braiding helps me some, with just an elastic at the bottom of the braid. Likewise, pigtails or multiple braids.

And then I wrap the braid into a bun putting the elastic around that to hold it in place.

Yes this.

Agreed on the braids. If it's really hot I braid than then use a clip or bobby pin to put the braid up off my neck.

Yep I feel your pain. It does feel like the last couple weeks my hair has gotten twice as heavy. I was getting headaches too. An elastic placed very low on a ponytail gathered at the nape of the neck worked best, or a braid, but sweet relief came when I got it cut. I feel so much lighter!
