I'm  sure you're all on the edge of your seats wondering how my day went yesterday.

Short version: I'm reasonably satisfied.

Long version:
Dropped off by [livejournal.com profile] purple_terror , who promised to get me 'pon me calling uncle(, which turned out to be 7:30.)
Set up in the basement- turns out Tyler did have an extra light for our dim corner, so not only reasonably lit but a not-horribly crowded arrangement. He has a lot of peripheral stuff, like TV trays, which was rather nice. There was a lot of jewelry represented, so I didn't bother putting much of mine out, just the trays of weird.
The overall traffic was moderate to light, but well peppered with my friends. Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shut_it_already  and [livejournal.com profile] evila for the early visit with crepe. [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage  spent quite a long time there and was eventually joined by [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen . [livejournal.com profile] woodwardiocom  bought one of my favorite pieces and brought me Christmas presents- dude! [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue  took over when lifecollage took off (with some overlap) and kept me company for a few hours- [livejournal.com profile] ahf  and [livejournal.com profile] caulay  were doing other shopping, too, so were around and about- and caulay provided emergency pizza for afternoon snack. By about 5-ish things slowed down from a moderate trickle to pretty much nothing as our would-be patrons were off eating dinner and getting ready to go to parties. [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty  stopped by after another epic day selling yarn, though.

As I have stated after other shows: I never know what's going to be popular. Usually I do well selling pirate/steampunk cameos. I didn't sell one this time. I did sell a lot of ornaments, which isn't really a surprise. I will be making yet another set of Cthulhu and Hellboy for Arisia. I have notions of trying a Tardis in some form. Overall, though, I'm simplifying what I have there this year. No magnets (they aren't worth the effort of writing up). Only jewelry will be the weird stuff, and moderate amounts of it. Major focus on themed boxes displayed- I technically don't have to make one new one, although I also sold my absolute favorite goth skull and rose (finally- and going to shut_it_already's friend who was made to have it, really) and maybe I need to make another like that.

I feel pretty badly for some of the other vendors who were making few-to-no sales. Especially those whose job it is to do this. Eeek? It's part of why I refuse to not throw myself on the purchasing whims of others to make my living. It would take exactly all the fun out of it. I may have done better than most, even- made a modest profit n' all.

FYI: Addis Red Sea does do takeout and it makes for entirely excellent post fair food.

I had heard much of this already

Glad it went well (enough). And I wholly agree on not letting your fun hobby of occasional profit become a thing unto which you may have to direct loathing.
