Last day in the UK
Let's see...
Yesterday:
Slept in
Walked into the picturesque bit of Cambridge
Bought more Lush (I'm apparently a convert now that I'm not fixated on the not so useful bath bombs. Weegee, I hear you cackle from here and pre-emtively
Also bought books and fudge
Looked at the Cam River
Walked back by way of a tea shop.
Had pizza for dinner
Visited the pub down the street where I met
fidgetmonster 's beau and saw nicholai and some other nice people. Nice mead, too. (working on 2 headed lizard baby notion- lizard baby needs more hats, but will help clear the air of insect life.)
Today:
Hosts' new fridge arrived (much rejoicing)
Went back into London with Tom- everyone relieved that the bitter chill and damp yesterday is not so awful
The plan of attack for London- Go visit the Weird Hangout Sort of Spot a la Coventry, South St., Harvard Sq. Here that means Camden Lock Market. I got my fill of weird and gothy, lots of tchatchki shops, clothes that are gorgeous and not being bought (wrong season and/or hi, I'm not buying any new non-practial clothes, thanks. ) Although regretting not picking up a pocket watch- they had half-sized ones which were on necklace chains. Did I mention the Lush? There was a lot of Lush before.
Upon getting our fill of ridiculously avante garde, we headed to the British Museum for a very short visit. there's just too much there. Did see the Rosetta Stone and Elgin Marbles.
I had been very keen on a bit more cafe time between activities, so
purple_terror recalibrated and ended up having a fantastic time drinking tea, eating croissant and more bananagrams. Carol had joined us at Br-Mus., so we did a few normal rounds then decided to see what would happen if we built a group effort off of Antidisestablishmentaryism. ... Or something like that. It started off with Queen and Church intersecting with the first N and went from there to build and English/London theme. Did take a picture, will post to Flickr eventually.
Dinner at St. John was very much to p_t and Tom's tastes. I liked the fois gras and the dessert. St. John is old school and so the inevitable gamey meat and other ... weird-- well, no thanks. I tried- had fun trying but look forward to trying other things, too.
There was even a v. brief stop off at the Scotch Whiskey Society before dinner. What a great room. Had a fire and couches and comfy seats. The guys peeled off to there while Carol and I came back.
Tomorrow: travel. We will be home late.
Everyone at home seems to be in close proximity or actually experiencing Norovirus. I had thought to go to Hot Foods Saturday. I'm rethinking this. I... DON'T... want barf time. No. You keep. No share. Maybe will go see the Simon Pegg movie. Maybe continue re-acquainting self with couch.
Or I may attend in a hazmat suit. ^_^
