Last day in the UK
Let's see...
Yesterday:
Slept in
Walked into the picturesque bit of Cambridge
Bought more Lush (I'm apparently a convert now that I'm not fixated on the not so useful bath bombs. Weegee, I hear you cackle from here and pre-emtively
Also bought books and fudge
Looked at the Cam River
Walked back by way of a tea shop.
Had pizza for dinner
Visited the pub down the street where I met
fidgetmonster 's beau and saw nicholai and some other nice people. Nice mead, too. (working on 2 headed lizard baby notion- lizard baby needs more hats, but will help clear the air of insect life.)
Today:
Hosts' new fridge arrived (much rejoicing)
Went back into London with Tom- everyone relieved that the bitter chill and damp yesterday is not so awful
The plan of attack for London- Go visit the Weird Hangout Sort of Spot a la Coventry, South St., Harvard Sq. Here that means Camden Lock Market. I got my fill of weird and gothy, lots of tchatchki shops, clothes that are gorgeous and not being bought (wrong season and/or hi, I'm not buying any new non-practial clothes, thanks. ) Although regretting not picking up a pocket watch- they had half-sized ones which were on necklace chains. Did I mention the Lush? There was a lot of Lush before.
Upon getting our fill of ridiculously avante garde, we headed to the British Museum for a very short visit. there's just too much there. Did see the Rosetta Stone and Elgin Marbles.
I had been very keen on a bit more cafe time between activities, so
purple_terror recalibrated and ended up having a fantastic time drinking tea, eating croissant and more bananagrams. Carol had joined us at Br-Mus., so we did a few normal rounds then decided to see what would happen if we built a group effort off of Antidisestablishmentaryism. ... Or something like that. It started off with Queen and Church intersecting with the first N and went from there to build and English/London theme. Did take a picture, will post to Flickr eventually.
Dinner at St. John was very much to p_t and Tom's tastes. I liked the fois gras and the dessert. St. John is old school and so the inevitable gamey meat and other ... weird-- well, no thanks. I tried- had fun trying but look forward to trying other things, too.
There was even a v. brief stop off at the Scotch Whiskey Society before dinner. What a great room. Had a fire and couches and comfy seats. The guys peeled off to there while Carol and I came back.
Tomorrow: travel. We will be home late.
Everyone at home seems to be in close proximity or actually experiencing Norovirus. I had thought to go to Hot Foods Saturday. I'm rethinking this. I... DON'T... want barf time. No. You keep. No share. Maybe will go see the Simon Pegg movie. Maybe continue re-acquainting self with couch.
Or I may attend in a hazmat suit. ^_^

In the words of J, you have officially drunken the kool-aid*. You might find, if you care to, that there is an entire world-wide community of Lushie-folk who are much more obsessed than I. In the UK, Lush isn't a froofy overpriced luxury. It's available to All. I might just be going to the Baltimore shop on Saturday, since I'll be in town anyway. Not to buy anything; maybe something small. Just to enjoy the vibe.
And kudos to you for at least trying to take in the British Museum.
And you've been to the Scottish Whiskey Society! I've been to one in Edinburgh, courtesy of
*I won't tell you how many Brits needed me to explain the metaphor. It's just not something they get. It's like England's another country or something

3 kinds of bar soap, another shampoo bar, more ocean salt face scrub, retread, 2 body butters- Buffy and King of Skin. I'm too lazy to check what the bar soaps are: one is gothy green/black, one is citrus and good for reducing redness in skin, one is 50s aqua blue. I forget what the green and aqua ones are known for. I plan on cutting off pieces of all 3 and using them slowly. I think I need another non-rusting (aka, not altoids) tin to keep those contained.

Cutting off small pieces/decanting is a good idea. Also, try to let the small pieces dry in between uses; apparently the soaps can melt quickly in standing water. Buffy and King of Skin are fabulous and really do make the skin touchable soft. Possibly they might stave off stretchmarks too, though I think that I've heard that the 'Therapy' massage bar is also good for that.
Retread is possibly the best stuff ever that I've used on my hair. I like the scent of American Cream much better, but I still use Retread every few weeks. It does wonders and I've never noticed it or AC building up like other conditioners tend to.

And actually, funny thing about American Dream-- It's so emphatically your scent that I very consciously don't buy it because it's like borrowing someone else's tooth brush. Ok, not quite, but in that range of weird.

The SMWS lounge in London is one of my favorite places, though I'm told that the Mothership in Leith is the bestest. I only brought home one bottle from them this time, but I think they now out number high street bottlings in my stash at home. Yum.
I shall try not to infect you
Doubt I can win on this
Also, parking. It sounds like a trifecta of fail.
Watch, everyone will think similarly and only 1/3 the usual (hence almost bearable) and reducing the parking issue and all.
But seriously, given how much less able I would be able to deal with massive loss of liquids of any kind, more safe than sorry is my watch-word on Saturday. Will write more soon to you to see what our options are.
