Back in the crafting saddle
I just finished my first project using an Illy Coffee canister as the canvas for my clay. They're much more sturdy than the Harney & Sons tea tins, which have a huge amount of flex in them. Additionally, Illy are round but approximately the same dimensions at H&S. And screw-top lid.
This is the first time I've done an actual suggested theme for the design of coffee (I know, I'm a genius!). Previous occasions (meaning all of them for the past 4 years) were pretty much not wanting to limit potential patrons' notions of what they think they want to do with my art. I mean, I really prefer them being used. Dust catchers are not my idea of a good time, even if they are pretty. However, perhaps limiting potential buyers is good when people are having that mental block. It's a notion.
We are likely to have a few more Illy canisters come my way in the next month or so. They are known for their espresso bean quality (just ask everyone in Italy)- and I may well do some more that follow the "put tea or coffee here" notions. I just may not do the full vermicelli effect on all of them.
I was reminded in this brief clay foray that sometimes designs on paper don't translate to clay. Simplification is almost always a reasonable solution.
