Another chapter from the book of obvious

I am not fond of chaos, cacophonous chatter, clutter, crowds. 
I have thought I was an extrovert, but drwex has disabused me of this long-held notion. But it really isn't as simple as that. If we're going with the Meyers-Briggs notion, I am very extroverted in my mode of thinking: I must think out loud in order to come to some resolution. Going with the more generically used definition of intro/extrovert referring to interest in being around other people, then clearly I am a selective extrovert. Yes, I want to be around people, but if the situation branches into multiple conversations in a small space, my brain short circuits trying to track it all. 

All this came up while at a 2 year old's birthday party. primal_pastry, who was also here for my review of obvious observations, promised on the spot she'd cover Crime Fighter's birthday party needs for the first few years to take the edge off. Very thoughtful. I was suddenly not looking forward to what lies ahead. 

Not unrelated: I am not going to hang out with the local chapter of the moms brigade at the Museum of Science tomorrow morning- along with all the 2 year olds ever. I am going to stay home and tame some of the chaos that's edging in around the corners of my house. And possibly bake cookies and I may choose to stay in my flannel pajamas if the weather insists on being dis-grossing, as we used to say in grade school.

I still remember that girl at that party lo those many years ago who charmed me so. She might have been an extrovert; I'm not sure. But we grow and mature and change. Change is not bad, it just is.

A note from Grandma about birthday parties

From my mom:
About baby birthday parties-they are for the adults, not the kids! Kids like playing with other kids. Little kids only need one or two other kids to enjoy. Lots of kids, not so much. Didn't you all really notice? Doesn't have to be a birthday party until maybe age 5? when they notice? And you can go to the pool by then! August birthday-outside! So Grandma Debbie says, to all of you moms and dads-remember who the party is for, scale appropriately and babies don't know when their birthday party should be so go ahead, don't have one until everyone cares, mostly the kid. Then, yeah, a friend to help, Chucky Cheese, pool, picnic shelter, skating rink, soccer field-rituals are supposed to be nurturing and affirming, not crazy making. Anyone else?
