Sorry. I lost voice modulation.
But seriously, guys. Six. Months. Six.
My baby is tall
Not-so-little Crime Fighter is busting out of so many of his clothes. Footy pajamas can be somewhat problematic. Pretty much every time we expose his feet to air, they go directly into his mouth. And then there are the times when they're still covered and they go into his mouth.
And moving all over the place
There is definite proto-crawling going on, where he does a sort of push up and then doesn't know what to do with himself. He can almost roll to where he wants to go from back to front and front to back. Sitting up? Yeah, some of the time, but there's still a lot of falling over. Assisted standing or bouncing is always a good idea.
And sleeping for several hours though out the night
I had to check, but it's been less than 2 weeks since I started the Go To F-- To Sleep project, which involved moving his bed into the office and not bouncing up the second I heard him make awake noises in the middle of the night. Mostly, he's doing just fine.  I'm glad I was brave and tried for what felt like a scary thing at the time.
A few nights ago, I've come in and he's sleeping in the child's pose. They really don't make that one up, I guess. Disconcerting, but sort of inevitable. I just wish it didn't involve him flinging all the covers off.
Food?
Food. We finally bought some baby cereal (made from real babies...no that's not right. Oatmeal) and we've tried some bits of banana and Cheerios are entertaining. Smushed curried chickpeas = hilarious faces. We are now, suddenly, overdue for a high chair. I'm also likely to get one or two more silicon food-catcher bibs. Those thing rock.
ETA: as of 2/23: there's now a new tooth above the gum line (barely, of course) up top. No wonder he was so cranky this week
Chatterbox-Charmer
I apologize if you get serenaded by the high pitched noises that are a favorite thing at the moment. If he keeps going on that path I demonstrate low pitch, sort of like Dory the Fish talking whale. It's not 100%, but I swear there's more lower pitches after that demonstration. The regular babble continues, too, with more complex phonemes. Buh- Bruh and Mah- Muh noises are featured in the past few days.
He is still pretty serious and quiet in unfamiliar environments. He'll stare at you, serious as a judge, until he figures out the parameters. After he's figured it out- whatever it is that he needs to figure, then he'll flirt and smile.
Digital Manipulation
We bought a tooth brush for him after the two teeth came in last month (no- no more... yet. Thank all the gods), and he is doing a good job with that and his new spoons. We have classic shape matching game from Fisher Price with the circle, square, star, triangle, and cross pieces. He dumps them all out of the bin and chews on the handle. Yesterday, Nom the Bunny ended up in the bin for a bit. He has not yet determined how to actually put objects into the box on a regular basis. Dumping out is way more fun. Pacifiers are mostly a miss. Thumbs tend to be better now that the first teeth are in.
There might be more, but really that's most of it.
We started here

And now we are here.
my baby at six months
I am stunned. I should just start packing his toys for college now. (Or trade school)

High chair thoughts

From: [identity profile] kebbykate.livejournal.com
He's great!

One quick recommendation for your consideration. Rather than buying a highchair per se, I recommend getting one of the booster-seat-with-tray things that you can firmly strap to an existing chair. Much cheaper and you don't lose additional floor space. You can remove the chair from the seat if it's needed for an adult guest. It also travels relatively easily (in a vehicle).

(Took a quick peek online, the Safety 1st Sit n Go Booster Seat that my girls used still exists, although it is fancier now.)

Then my girls moved up to the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair (ours is red), which is a much nicer looking piece of furniture with a much longer useful lifespan, and can even be perched on by adults. (It looks like there is a special additional seat for infants to be used with it.) It's the perfect thing to ask grandparents to underwrite.

I love his baldness and enthusiasm! He looks like such an awesome little guy.

Is that the Lamaze Mortimer the Moose? I was eyeing him in a store the other day but we are so NOT buying toys yet. All the toys in that series are hella cute. Looks like the moose is a hit.

Thank you! I haven't been on LJ much lately so no worries on missing the announcement. We're Facebook friends, aren't we? My news stuff is more likely to end up there these days. And it's good to hear that the moose is as fun for the little guy as it is adorable.

OK, my husband just read this post and went to look up the silicon food-catcher bibs, which look to be brilliant. We've added it to our proto-registry. Thanks!
