Lemon Face! (At Legal Seafood last Tuesday post Aquarium visit)

- Holding steady at 8 teeth. He seems to have been delegated tooth grower for this bit of the baby boom since his contemporaries seem to still be grinning gummily still. And I am pretty certain he has a few more close to the surface. Piranha. On the upside, he's not really biting me. Much.
- It's been a while since he was weighed/measured. I will assume he's somewhere around 23 or 24 lbs. The new doctor, "Dr. Death," does percentiles, unlike Dr. VooDoo (realizing I didn't tell that story- will do so not in this list) he's in the 90% on height and 50% on weight, which might explain why his pants fall down and his footie pajamas are too short.
- Hair- he's definitely getting some, and it's blonde, just like daddy had when he was little.
- Such interesting noises: A few nights ago, he made tauntaun "blagl-blagl" noises at dinner.
purple_terror thinks I am making it up, but I heard it.
quiet_elegance is pretty sure he's heard him say "daddy," and there's a universal Mah noise which can be more, milk, mom (all at the same time?) I've seen him make the milk sign while nursing, but he doesn't necessarily respond or use signs/words predictably. That wiring hasn't been finished yet because... - He's so busy teleporting. He has really perfected the art of speed-crawling. He'll stand unassisted for long moments and a few times he's taken a few steps, but I've not really witnessed that last bit yet. He'll push around furniture while standing. His favorite is to relocate his Rage Cage (aka play pen) to some place else in the kitchen. Alternatively, he'll hold a stuffed animal in his hand glide around, essentially sweep the floor with it as he crawls. Sometimes one in each hand
- Stairs. Yep. He loves to crawl up the stairs. Thus far he's not managed to do so without careful supervision. He would love to superman down, head first. No.
- One of his favorite toys is the box of sunglasses, glasses cases and old prescription specs that I'd had stashed in the kitchen in a shoe box. He'll dump them out and throw the contents about, or use the cases for better gliding while crawling.
- Peekaboo! He now will initiate a game of it, which is sort of the best
- He'll squinch up his eyes and grin really widely when he wants to be especially charming, when water drips on his face, or when he anticipates being tickled- particularly when it's PT's ponytail or a stuffed animal rubbed against his cheeks
- Raspberries. He figured out a while ago how to blow raspberries, particularly on me- my arms, my belly if it's showing, my sternum. Of course this is the pinnacle of comedy.
- Bear. He loves his white polar bear and it is essential for sleeping now, I think. He'll flop down on top of it, butt up, or roll over and snuggle it after I put him down after a night feeding. It still doesn't have a name.
- Water- I've never seen a kid more entranced by water. He loves drinking from the faucet, from pretty much anything. I'll let him sit in the empty tub while I fill it from the shower head. He'll stick his face in the pool or the tub, not just to drink (eeh? not ideal, but after a certain point, I can't stop him) but to just feel the water on his face. Swimming lessons seem like a non-negotiable future plan.
- Food!- Yogurt with jam mixed in is on the approved list. Indian food is the best. Cottage cheese, blueberries, corn, toast... all good things. Scrambled eggs maybe not. The only thing I'm careful about not giving him is under-cooked eggs, raw sushi, and honey. Everything else is game and all is going fine so far.
- Drinking- he's figured out how straws work. Mostly. He'll take a really long swig from a sippy cup or a straw but not figure out how to swallow the last mouth full.
- Sleep - eh? He still prefers 3 naps a day. Bedtime is almost always between 7 and 7:30. He'll nurse when I go to bed, then usually stay asleep for 5-6 hours. He'd been getting up at 3 the last few nights, but then sleeping until sometime after 6. That is a bit better than waking up at 5 and then not going back to sleep at all until first nap.
- Nursing- there's a lot less of it than there used to be. Clearly he's self-weaning. It used to be, I'd get home at 6 he'd nurse, again at bedtime at 7ish, and then at my bedtime. Now that he's actually eating solid foods at dinner and very interested in drinking water... Yeah. I'm not loving that shift but it's inevitable. My production used to be over 20 oz. pumped a day, and now it's pretty much 8-9. We added formula to the mix a while ago. It is what it is, I guess. Night nursing will probably stick around after he stops wanting it from me the few hours I'm home. Also, he has no attention span most of the time. He'll nurse for a few seconds then HAVE to go look at something else. As my mom pointed out, just like me at this age.
"Are we STILL sitting here? Finish eating so we can go play."
And in less than a month, a year old. There will be a cupcake, oh yes.
