This is a kid
My baby's really not a baby so much these days... well, maybe a little. But he's well on his way to kid-land.
Baby tricks
His drunken sailor walk is gaining strength. It's still not usually more than about 5 steps at a time, but progress!
Water is still the best thing ever. He had an impromptu bath over the weekend in the sink. I was just glad I got his clothes off him and the sharp things out of his reach before he was too engrossed.
He loves climbing, which is nerve wracking. He's better at climbing than walking at this point. He'll still climb into the recycling bin if I let him and can't or doesn't want to differentiate between that and climbing into his toy bin.
Oh, and yesterday I let him throw away a Q-Tip. And then realized that he'd want to throw away EVERYTHING now. Which he then proved by trying to throw away his tooth brush. (snerk)
He's very outgoing, and has yet to really experience anxiety around strangers. Given his druthers, he'd spend every day tethered to me, which really isn't a surprise. I'm the one with the milk and I'm gone most of the day.
Communication-
Ma/Da, but used sparingly and usually only when wanting to get up in the morning before its time
Meh Meh - milk vs. single Meh for more
Ba: book and bear
Guak: duck/quack
Wh-ua: woof and an all-encompassing: "so, what's that, what's going on?"
Oh, and sometimes if I say what sound does the wolf make, he'll go "oooooo!"
He'll start quacking at toy ducks, pictures of ducks, or we talk about them
Of course we must woof at dogs and talk about what sound a dog makes. I'd like to work on kitty meows, too, for balance.
He will also wave hi/bye at people out of the blue- usually us at home, but also people out on the street
He will now show you his tongue when asked
Also his nose (usually by jamming his finger up a nostril)
The only sign language he seems to have down is done when eating, which looks a lot like waving hi/bye
Teething/sleeping/food
There's been a lot of teething the last week and a cold. This will make 16 once the last two break through. ALL the teeth.
Naps have started to consolidate and the whole sleep schedule is sort of wonky. At least with the departure of morning nap, afternoon nap is longer. He's also mostly seeming to stay in bed longer in the morning. There are still at least 1-2 wakeups and nursing at night, though. A nice trend is that he seems to be able to sleep through parental bedtime- maybe not much past that, but it's a start. If all goes well, QE will get a job soon, and
He stopped having thawed mom-milk some months ago, which means I was able to stop pumping at work. I'm not sorry to see that go. He's more than happy to have it fresh still.
All those teeth means he can eat just about anything, but loves noodles, anything on parents' plates, whole apples, almost all fruit, and will tolerate broccoli. Really, it is still easier to describe what he doesn't like than what he does. I still find him carrying around a gnawed apple to be insanely endearing.
I've been hugely remiss in uploading pics. All the ones I have in flickr are from August or early September.
TL:DR - yep, the kid is learning stuff and is wonderfully charming

They're like little learning machines at this age, aren't they?

Oh, and the fun of him loving remotes, buttons, and brooms. He's starting to mimic a bit more. When Matt was painting over at the babysitter's house a few months ago, D. went up to a wall and started to swipe his hand back and forth like Dad. It was absolutely stunning. And terrifying.
Gnawed apple pic!
Yay Dashlet!
Can I come visit soon?
