A rambly update about the move
Moving day is now, technically, less than a week away.
fubar started the painting process(must repaint back to the original colors, as that's what the lease says and we have a rules-lawyer of a landlord.) and yes, he's had help:
ahf,
asciikitty, and me, particlarly. 2 weeks ago, taped up and primed the kitchen. Friday we taped the living room and primed. Yesterday/today paint applied to kitchen and livingroom. Right before dinner, he took the tape off in the kitchen, only to discover... the paint. Coming off in sheets. Down to the plaster. Because some fuckwit way back when didn't bother to prime. After a scorpion bowl break (and some Chinese food),
asciikitty and I w/ an assist from
quiet_elegance finished the controlled peel, sanded the transitions, and I reprimed. This was a wholly unpleasant process. It's dusty and desiccating. It's also really difficult to see the primer once it's on the plaster, which does a great job of acting exactly like a sponge.
But now it's done and while I keep my kamikaze son from caroming off the walls in a very literal fashion, picking up hammers, spackle knives, spackle pots that may or may not be fully closed, hardware detritus... OK, you get the picture. The boy must be out of the house as much as possible. As it turns out, it's actually easier to move when pregnant than with a toddler. One ungainly pregnant lady can do some stuff to help. One toddler actively tries to destroy and reduces the able bodied helpers by at least one. My parents have been here since Friday and we are going off together: to the Arlington Petri dish Reservoir,
sunspiral and
roozle's pool (yaaay!!!), the aquarium, tomorrow will be the hotel pool... (you see a theme?)...
So, while I was not fond of doing the prep and priming, at least I got to actively contribute to fixing up the house this evening.
File under don't ask don't get...
IF anyone in the peanut gallery wants to help in this move process, but lacks the time or interest in manual labor in the middle of a heat wave: feel free to help me recover with one or more of the following:

IF anyone in the peanut gallery wants to help in this move process, but lacks the time or interest in manual labor in the middle of a heat wave: feel free to help me recover with one or more of the following:
- sushi
- sake
- sushi and sake
- ice cream
- sushi, sake, followed by ice cream
- mani/pedi*
- make me go to the movies*
- sushi, sake, ice cream, and the movies
- Lush. Like I need an excuse.
- (ETA) massage. Professional or dedicated amateur, scheduled or spontaneous (but don't touch me if it's over 85...I know so many rules...)
* complicated by non-zero need for a babysitter
We are really making progress. One of the two pods is full, the painting may well get done tomorrow, or damn close, a remarkable amount of stuff is packed away and we have 6 more days to do the rest. The kitchen cabinets are mostly all in, QE gets a helper tomorrow (he's been mostly doing his stuff solo), we are getting a new washer/dryer delivered on Friday, the other appliances are ordered, and I have babysitting help for next weekend!
ETA: And I took apart my monster of a box of a wardrobe from Ikea that doesn't fit through the door in one piece. I got a bit of help with the door removal, but I did the rest myself. ::proud::

As for recovery options, I can provide as many items off that list as you'd like to take me up on. Take a look at my calendar and find time that works for you, when you've a moment.
