Just when you're about ready to re-gift your progeny, you get a morning like this...

First of all, we realized this kid's teething (again, some more, and molars at that). Advil yesterday was magical, and I was ready to give him more this morning, except as you will see, not necessary. Sadly, there was a 2am wakeup, but he also didn't hugely fight being put back to bed after some snuggles.
This morning, he slept past 6:30, so I was able to

  • shower

  • dress

  • make my lunch

  • start dishes

All before he woke up. Then when he did, it was not a trauma. Since he's on mini-vacation from school and his activity for the day is to hang out at The Monkey House, I was not in a rush. Want to play first thing? Go for it. He hung out in his room and put stickers on a box and himself for about 10 minutes or more. Eventually he came out and stole some of my breakfast. We walked down the block at 8, he'll be there for the next few hours til naptime. The girls are getting some cash and have been given the task to ride herd on him. Everyone wins!

I guess we'll keep him.

Hooray for kid awesomeness.

My kid awesomeness this AM was that Thing 2 was willing to resolve a conflict (that required me to send him back repeatedly to redo a chore) without emotional outbursts.

I pointed out to him that we'd noticed this, and thanked him. He gave me an extra hug!

For this week at least.

It really does get better. I stayed over at a friends house and woke up to an 8 year old standing over me, who then asked, of their own volition, "how do you like your coffee?". And then brought back said coffee! (Thanks, Keurig!). I am still delightfully baffled. The child was much praised, as were the parents and their amazing training program :)

What is it with kids and stealing Mommy's food? I still can't get Bump to stop doing it.

Food tastes better off Mommy's (or Daddy's) plate.
