[livejournal.com profile] quiet_elegance is wrapping up his 10 week gig doing night shift. It's been profitable, but it's hard not having him around for certain parts of the day.  Really, the majority of his time in the last 3 years has been unemployed, so the whole parent-balance thing, I'm used to him being available. There'll always be something sacrificed when he's back on site. This has definitely been one of the better jobs he's had in the recent past. He comes home tired, but not grumpy, sharing stories of pranks pulled on coworkers.

Turns out, also, our mattress has past its usefulness, so we headed up to Jordan's this past weekend and got a top end latex-foam mattress. Can't wait! Sadly, it doesn't show til Friday and as expected the last few nights of sleep are the pits, because that's how it works.

Work for me is... eh? Fine? We're busy. Writing documentation, processing collections, getting articles written about us in the NYT. You know. The usual.

Honorary Niece arrives in a week and 2 days! It's going to be a great time. I'm not taking the whole time off, but it gives the opportunity for exploration.

Wedding plans for Labor Day is set, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pisicutsa's being game for adventure. Woot!

Funsies/crafting:

  • Not spinning much, but s'ok.

  • Working on a simple lace pattern for [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty for a shrug in white cotton. It's lovely, but slow.

  • Someday, I'll work on this rag rug, inspired by The Art Assignment: T-shirts. But I want it to look really nice for what it is, so no braiding til I have the bulk of the shirts. Since it's not super-important, it'll get picked up when the guys have time to sort their shirts.

  • Weaving-- well, it's there. I haven't worked on it in a while.

  • [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage gifted back a canvas with the Serenity logo we did way back when we silkscreened onto shirts for the movie. It still lacks any background, so I'm totally going to do something. Oh yes.

  • Arlington Open Studios-- Still waiting to hear if I'm in or not. They never got and/or lost my application before I was considered. I resubmitted mid last week, as apparently there were still spots, but that doesn't mean they'll take me in. Unlike other open studios, this one is centered in the arts center, a converted elementary school. So, big craft fair, of a sort. I'm in favor of the format, as it takes the pressure off me and my family. If I get picked up, I kick into making clay stuff again: tins, ornaments, tea lights. Primarily.

  • Reading Red Seas Under Red Skies, the 2nd Locke Lamora book by Scott Lynch. Sooo good... but I'm extra slow reading due to tons of podcasts and audiobooks to choose from.

  • I'm trying out Ourtunez for music thanks to them sponsoring Nerdist podcast. Not in love, but worth a shot.

  • I want to go see Guardians of the Galaxy! But I lack the capacity to logistic that re: kid care at the moment.

  • This Friday I'm going to see Shakespeare on the Common. Unless it's raining. Then I'm seeing Guardians ;)

OK. There you have it.

Yay, mostly.

If you are up for the drive you can drop off the kidlet with us and go see GotG at the AMC Burlington, which has the awesome property of having 100% reserved seats that you can buy online for no more than standard movie price. Thing 2 will be going away to camp on Sunday so we'll be kidless (and kind of frantically doing ALL THE THINGS) anyway.

I'd love to see what you do with the Serenity emblem. Still love that shirt.

Sorry QE only got 10 weeks out of this gig, but a gig is a gig I guess I guess. (damn, I am NOT going to Dr Seuss that, I swear)
