Backtracking to what I wrote yesterday about the busy weekend...

Crime Fighter's school is in the basement of a church. That church is undergoing rehabilitation/construction. The GC for the project has no flipping clue what he's doing, so when he said he'd take care of it regarding 2nd egress, for some reason the director and board believed him. But he actually didn't and when a routine fire drill on Friday brought out fire inspectors, and they saw the gross oversight, the building inspector was brought in and the school closed til things get fixed. quiet_elegance is currently president of the board right now, so he dropped everything to go deal with the sudden shit-storm: angry parents, angry inspectors, freaking director, and yeah... This was all on Halloween. Thank god it hadn't started raining yet. My plans for pre-school party + parents was extremelly fortuitous. Dash's closest friends have parents very involved in the board, so we had a spontaneous steering committee spring forth in the middle of the party. It was exactly what QE needed to reground himself.
Tuesday Update: They sorted it out yesterday afternoon and we're back on track and everyone who's supposed to be at school, is. Now we deal with the fallout.

Did I mention that QE's best friend died a few weeks ago? Right, well, QE has been designated heir apparent for much of Rick's legacy, which also means helping the family prep for the memorial (this weekend). It's a stressful thing, but a great honor. Because Rick knew everyone and was friends with a lot of people. But QE's the one particularly singled out to carry on with so much.  So, planning and acting as support for that continued throughout the weekend. There's be a ton of phone calls, and QE put together the CD for the memorial yesterday, so more big feels.

Did I mention that on Saturday the whole house minus Crime-fighter, but plus Robin went down to Foxwoods to go see a show? Right. That happened, too. The kid stayed with his fairy god mother & the crew at Estradell and had a fantastic time. I had a work-related event for the middle of that day, so I went to the resort via Newport, which is NOT on the way. But, it was nice to see other archivists I'd not seen in a while.
Sadly, by the time I got to the resort, I was beyond hungry and turns out casinos are intimidating as HELL. There's this monolith in the middle of the woods. You can see it from far away, and it is a labyrinth of sorts (of course). I ended up parking on entirely the wrong side of the property. QE had to come rescue me, as I was wholly out of spoons and didn't realize that if you go down *that* hall for like 10 minutes, you end up where I was supposed to be. :P
Once settled and fed, I was happy to bounce back to bouncy about dance tour concert!! They format it in a way that means non-stop routines, no filler to speak of. QE was super-duper-awesome and remembered our earplugs. He gambled, and did well, and had a lot of fun. Net-win.
Getting home was an adventure. [livejournal.com profile] fubar headed off to the Hartford airport for a week in Vancouver. Turns out getting there was the least awful part of his journey. The windy, sludgy weather meant he got missed planes and delays along the way. Robin and I didn't have to deal with the solidified rain til Natick. It did not keep me from buying ALL the donuts on the way to dropping her off. Union Sq., you see...

Oh. And I have a craft fair in Malden this Sunday: Congregation Agudas Achim Ezrath Israel's holiday fair. I am betting it's going to be rather small, but happy to have a new opportunity. Let me know if you think you'll be attending.

That's really awesome of QE. I'm glad he had someone who saw the real potential in him, and of course sad Rick's gone.

Quite the adventure all around.
