I'm glad I'm not on heavy medication all the  time. It's really cramping my writing style.
Quick sum-up....
- no physical activity for 10 days. (Suddenly don't know how I'll be getting to work, which involves walking half a mile)
- If your kid starts to snore randomly one day, take that kid to the doctor. She may have a paint brush, or at least part of one, tickling her brain. I DID! Or at least that's our running theory. Because not everyone loves visual evidence, I leave that out. I do have a picture though.
-Kingsman... not a movie for me
-But apparently Drop Dead Diva I can watch 2 episodes. I could point to my mom and say "She made me," but really, I'm fascinated to see how they might turn it around. At least it had more diversity than Kingsman. Not that Kingsman is a particularly high bar.

CinemaSins had a pretty good take on Kingsman, noting "Whitest recruitment ever" and wondering if they knew why Samuel L. Jackson's character never got to be the gentleman spy.

I saw it as part of a bad movie party. It was suitable material for that, at least. (It was better than the film after it, which was Jupiter Ascending; talk about a low bar....)

There were some decent Bond-film deconstructionist bits here and there, and one could lay blame on the parody's source material for other failures (their take on the Bond-gets-the-girl trope, for example, is no more misogynist than the original; another low bar there, sigh) but all in all I think you made the right call in bailing.

The CinemaSins video is under 14 minutes long, and the actual sins bit is only 12 of that, so it's probably worth a watch so you can snark the rest of the movie by proxy without watching the whole thing. :-)

I would love to chat with you more about Jupiter Ascending, because other than the plot, I adored that film. It's got a pretty high bar for a lot of other things going on in it. I wrote up a spoileriffic piece on G+ about it, if you want to read it - I can send you the link via email.

On Kingsman - I asked [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen if I should see it, knowing what he does about me. I got a resounding No back, so maybe I'll watch the CinemaSins video, too. :)

Ditto all of this. Jupiter Ascending was AMAZING (not "good" -- AMAZING) and For Me. I could tell that I would hate Kingsmen and saw several reviews confirming that opinion.

Spoilers but this was one of my favorite reviews:
http://threatquality.com/2015/02/08/is-jupiter-ascending-the-best-space-opera-of-all-time-and-also-the-best-movie/

I read that before the movie and honestly I think it made the movie better; I was able to gleefully look forward to those moments (ymmv)
