It's a jungle out there
Well, at least it felt like a jungle when I stepped out into the 99% humid air this morning. But!! Without a jacket. I think that's the first time this season I could do that.
I've been enjoying a very good mood most of the day now.
Aside from the reasonable temperature, I got a call back from B., on the library committee. I'd emailed her last week about our problem-child donor. Apparently the donor had pulled some fits with her and the other committee member who brokered the deal. So, I think last week's unpleasantness was inevitable. Suffering shared is always easier to bear than the kind one has solo. Now I can write a report for our meeting Friday without being overly cranky.
In other work goodness- I got to tell off a guy cold calling around the building for some communications company. There's a pretty well posted sign when you come in that says "No Soliciting." There are always a few eager beavers who ignore such things, or find excuses around it. I was pretty peremptory with him. It was the first time I managed to get a complete upper hand here. I'm just glad they don't bug me very often (about once every three months). It helps to have an unmarked door so far up in the building.
Also, I managed to make some progress on a preservation project that's linked to the discards. When FL and I go through the stacks, I snag all the books we're keeping but are in poor condition. Robin makes phase boxes for the really damaged ones, and I do book covers with buffered paper for those that just have rotting leather covers or loose boards. (those hussies!) I'm good at ignoring the box of "to be fixed" but after yesterday's discard session I discovered the box was overflowing. (oops! heeeheeehee)
I'm hoping to get to Ryles tonight to hear The Matthew Stubbs Band. I've been extra remiss in going to see them and if Cambridge isn't convenient enough, it never will be. Naturally the show doesn't start til 9, but I can be there for at least an hour or so before I need to head home.
