Several things- (looking back- wow. too long. time for cuts.)


First, the search committee has a Plan for the interviews for next week.
Yahoo!!! This makes me very very happy. The whole stupid space issues were pretty much talked to death yesterday. I'm certain that it will work out eventually. It's just so damned tiring.



I didn't mention yesterday in my flakiness that quiet_elegance gave me knife sharpening lessons on Sunday. According to him, I did very well for a beginner. Go me! I've noted a niche for a knife sharpener in our midst. If any of ya'll want some blades not dull, I'm setting myself forth as available for that task for barter or outright cold hard cash. Unlike Sunday, though, I'll not be doing 12+ knives at once. Yucko. Too many. How about a maximum of 5. Yeah.


Last night I was feeling restless, but didn't want to go to the rec center. So what to do? My book wasn't that gripping. Clay, perhaps. I figured I'd better not make any more right now. Too many winged creatures, still. Ah! I still had supllies for one more mobile. It had been forever since I'd made one. I think for once I'll keep this one. It represents most of the butterflies I have made over the past 3+ years. I really need to figure out what to do with the surplus. I like the idea of mobiles or whatever else would use muliple creatures at a time. I also think I ought to find a way to safely preserve samples of the best for posterity. Naturally the housing would have to be compact, protective from jarring/breakage, and in some way pretty.

heh, i didn't necessarily mean me (unless you can think of a barter, as i lack cold, hard cash), just as a general thing :)

barter is possible. If you're going to Diesel tonight, I can bring the creatures so you can see if it still appeals. I really really feel like I have way too much and I need to stick to the not make more til I reduce stock plan.

I did not get to play with your pretty knives, no- I stuck to our kitchen knives :). However, I may end up doing them if q_e doesn't have the inclination.

re: my knives - ok, that's fine. basically the biggest problem with hte edge on them now is that they don't *match*, and i'd like them to be interchangeable.

As both of you have noted on previous visits to my house, my three older kitchen blades are D-U-L-L. Not this week, but perhaps next week sometime? Cash is doable.

What kind of sharpening are you doing? Whetstone,oil, etc..?

Waterstones, actually. 4 grits, starting w/ 800 and last being 8000. Pretty basic, as far as I know, beyond that: looking for uneven grind, nicks and flat spots on the edge. The tough part is getting the angle right, of course.

800,1200,4000,8000 w/nagura

For kitchen knives and most straight bladed knives they are the best option.
