NY trip and stuff
Despite eitage w/ Fung Wah, I made dinner in time: both parents, the Broadwins, Joe, Susan and Liz, aunt and uncle (Leslie & Giles), and of all people, Jake Rufely, old theater fellow and uncle's foster father, iirc. I've not seen Jake since I was much younger. He's living in NY for the moment, but very likely to return to NE Ohio.
The show was quite good (3 Penny Opera)- much of the cast was different, but same Mack the Knife (drool). Giles invited his entire familial entourage to the cast party after. That was a trip. I've not hung out with professional actors before. I was brave and talked to a few. As always, the key is to simply talk about them. Then they'll talk for hours happily!
Returned via cab to Brooklyn Hts. I probably said this last fall, but I love the Broadwin's house! We stayed up too late talking, then stumbled next door to our beds. The lil ol lady who lives there and is out of town has a fantastic house, similar to the Broadwins, although slightly bigger and reminds me a great deal of my paternal grandmother's old house in Pittsburgh. If only she had the means and inclination to fix it up nice. House envy!!
Saturday was an unhurried start. Parents and I had a fantastic meal on Montague St. A real diner. Susan, Leslie, Giles, Mom, Dad, and I went up to the Met for an afternoon stroll. Since I'd just read Girl With a Pearl Earring, I had to see the Dutch Masters. Mom n Dad wanted to see the Modern section. By the time that was all seen, it was time for lunch, which was also liesurely and punctuated by good conversations.
Despite delays thanks to the MTA, we returned in good humor to relax and prep for dinner. I was once again keen on showing my appreciation for being accomodated by kind hosts, so made a kickass apple pie. Joe said I should give up this silly library business and be a baker. grin. More chattering and lounging until much booming was heard outside. After the initial "shit we're being bombed (again)" reaction wore off we decided probably fireworks, so went to look on the Promenade. It was, they were pretty. We assumed for the Olympic relay that had just run through with the torch.
Sunday- Giles and Leslie departed for a mini vacation in FL. I went next, theoretically parents followed to pick up the car at my Aunt Wendy's.
The bombshell of the morning was discovering that my elementary school had been closed at the end of this school year. No idea :( Very sad. My parents thought they'd already told me. I'll be home next month and I plan on having a funeral of sorts for myself and whomever else from the 'hood who feels similarly.
The trip back- Greyhound this time- was uneventful. The breakfast I had before I got on the bus was quite good and large, but after ~5 hours, I'm hungry again... and I just couldn't force myself to eat whilst on the bus. Stupid? Yeah. But so it goes.
Caulay was very kind. He scraped me up from the station, took me home and helped me get the first half of food shopping done. By the time I was done w/ the second half w/ Purple_terror, I knew I wasn't going to work today.
Today I got to sleep in some, catch up on LJ, and do a bit of shopping. P-t wanted to check out the Watertown restaurant supply store, I wanted to get fabric for curtains. Now it's already close to 6 and it's past time to prep dinner. A good day. I'm glad I could take it easy. Although I'm still sort of expecting to catch hell tomorrow when I go back to work. *shrug*

Did you? If so, how is it? There are quite a few things we'd be inclined to get from such an establishment.
Otherwise, sounds like you had a wonderful time in NYC. As the old saying goes, "Great city, but I wouldn't want..."
