Things with Stuff in it, volume N
I was wondering why I was loving on my granola and yogurt so very very much today- just really enjoying it more than I have in a month or so. Oh yeah, this is the full fatted yogurt- I switched to fat-free in a semi-painless way to reduce uncessary calories in my too-sendentary summer. You can't beat whole milk yogurt for flavor. Hmph.
So, yesterday New Fearless Leader convened a mid-morning coffee break/ meeting thing to give us a chance to consider what prep we need to do for the associate librarian whose first day is Monday. We didn't come up with any real plan, but we did share a fair number of humorous stories. I think New FL is one easily distracted by segues (mwahahaaahaaa). I think part of the reason why we didn't come up with a decent welcome plan is that there's not much one can do to prepare a new staff member to our idiosyncratic ways.
I have to say I adore New FL and the casual meeting/ breaks that are the new trend. The old way was to not really interact with anyone. Before Robin arrived, I spent most of the day including lunch alone and semi-stir crazy. When Robin did arrive, at least I had a comrade in youth and Mutant Enemy zeal. But even that was separatist in relation to the rest of the staff.
FL and I looked over the rare book room after lunch to give her an idea as to what's there. The topic of my tenure came up and I mentioned that I've been the longest-lasting archivist here so far. That my predecessors never lasted more than 2 years. She expressed her desire for me to stick around. I agreed: why leave now when things are getting so interesting (in the good way)! The past four years I feel like I was putting in my time and learning the quirks now I get my reward of comeraderie and collaborative work with fellow professionals. I just hope I get a raise soon snort/laugh. No I can't be all pie in the sky idealism.
And with that, I shall stop my rambling/procrastinating and see what's happening today down there in yon library.
PS: still no word on if ever I move downstairs. Not next month, I bet. *hmph* Stupid politics
