It is definitely histiocytosis: non-cancerous tumor by/in one ear. The doc at the children's hospital they found specializes in this condition and was quite glad that it wasn't in both ears or spread throughout her body. They did surgery yesterday, gave her chemo and will continue to do the chemo for however long such things need to last.
She's a strong, big girl, which should help. My brother in law seemed pretty positive, but that is sort of his job. I think even my m-i-l who is often the most vocal in her freaked-ness has moved past hysteria and into determined determinedness.
I doubt that I'll be saying much more on this after this. Now it is maintenance as far as I can tell.
