Anniversary month
This month marks the 5th year I've been at my
job. None of the previous archivists lasted half this time. I'm the
Voice of Authority (and experience) and none who served as I have ever
had the chance to get to know the job as well as I have. I also am here
as things have gotten progressively better. My interns are quite
fantastic and getting close to the end of their time with me. I'll be
very sad to see them go. I doubt I'll be so lucky ever again. And
considering they've been working outside of my office the whole time,
there's been no point when I have been burdened by their presence. I'm
going to be presenting at a conference this weekend, talking about the
"uniqueness of religious archives" so I've been scrambling to get a
visual presentation together. One of the toys we've gotten this week as
part of our grant money is a digi camera. It has more bells and
whistles that I think is strictly necessary, but wow- fantastic clarity
when taking pictures of text. Not only do I feel confident about what
I'm doing as a professional (vs. freaked out way too much of the time),
I'm not remotely bored and there's little chance boredom will become an
issue.
- I did manage to get the motorcycle started, but still haven't been home on a dry and not busy night. Soon! I was imagining riding up to the conference and scaring the nuns with my provacative riding gear, but I can't transport a tri-fold display board nor is a little Rebel 250 comfortable for highway driving beyond a few miles. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- Dance class is progressing nicely, although more practicing must happen- weeks seem so short espeicially when it comes to stuff like this. All of a sudden, it's Tuesday already. I just hope next class I won't feel like the living dead whilest dancing.
- I get to go shopping with a new friend tonight after work-
Stephanie. I'm on the never-ending quest to (save my boyfriend... no!)
find a truly comfortable and attractive pair of shoes and she is
probably the perfect comanion on that quest. But first: dim sum!
- My dad is planning to visit on my birthday in a few weeks- I'd already planned to take a 3 day weekend, so we can go do stuff for a whole day. It has been quite a while since he's visited by himself. His visits are pretty low-key. He's big into "hanging out" and doesn't require a plan or 24/7 entertainment.

And I'm glad to see that term for it catching on.
