I rock like the rockingest of things
In the spring I jumped through all the hoops for an NEA preservation grant. I'd never done that sort of research before- it's always complicated and tedious, don'tchaknow. But! The letter got in today and we got it! My first grant EVAR. It's slated for a general survey of the collection that will be used as a stepping stone for getting other more specific preservation grants. Being able to say one has acquired a grant from your doing is a hyuuuuuge deal for resume health and whatnot and I had been feeling its lack for some years on the principle of "one should." One has. One rocks.

This is a major milestone for your professional career. May there be many more after it.
Wow!
Now, the only rain I have for your parade is just wait until you have to deal with the reporting. The Feds just love numbers and they want you to generate lots of numbers for them in exchange for the lovely money they give you. My best piece of advice is to sit down with the grant and make yourself read through all their reporting requirements and their timeline, then plug those into your calendar ahead of time, set up spreadsheets ahead of time, and just ADMINISTER the hell out of the grant so that you don't get buried by it at the end. (Typically they want some accounting of your contribution, which translates into some unit of your salary and the salaries of everyone else who works on this with you, plus office supplies, heat, phones, etc.)
Or you will really hate life.
But they're giving you the lovely money-so hurrah!

I did some help on grant writing when I was in museum work, but never enough to take credit on one. This is HUGE.
One does indeed ROCK!
